Amazon announces closure of in-car delivery service for Prime users

Recently, according to foreign media reports, Amazon issued a new announcement, stating that it will shut down the "in-car delivery" service for Amazon Prime members.

According to CNBC , Amazon notified Prime users via email on Thursday that the "Key In-Car Delivery" service will be "suspended indefinitely."

In the email, Amazon said that while Amazon plans to restart the "In-Car Delivery" service as soon as possible , unfortunately it will be suspended indefinitely. Amazon deeply apologizes for the inconvenience caused to buyers and thanks buyers for being loyal customers of Amazon.

Subsequently, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed that the company is currently shutting down the "In-Car Delivery" service. In addition, an Amazon spokesperson pointed out that Amazon had suspended the "In-Car Delivery" service in March last year. Amazon had previously planned to resume the service, but now it is focusing on "Garage Delivery" and building more key products, so it will suspend the "In-Car Delivery" service indefinitely.

It is understood that Amazon launched the "In-Car Delivery" service for Prime members of some selected models in 2018, which is an extension of Amazon Key. Amazon has launched a series of services that enable delivery drivers to place packages in buyers' garages, homes and businesses without having to deliver them in person. Amazon's "In-Car Delivery" service is compatible with vehicles from automakers such as Ford and Volvo.

Amazon stressed that the purpose of launching this service for Prime members is to protect buyers' packages or groceries from weather, damage and theft. But at the same time, the "in-car delivery" service has also raised concerns about strangers entering (albeit limited entry) private cars, homes or garages, and the security and user privacy of the service have been controversial.

In an email notification sent by Amazon on Thursday , Amazon said Prime users can try the "Garage Delivery" service and enjoy a $30 discount on the first delivery , as well as a free Chamberlain myQ smart garage controller . The controller can give Amazon the power to open the buyer's garage door to facilitate delivery services.
