Global e-commerce market sales increased by 13% in Q3! Sales increased, prices also increased...

According to Salesforce's latest report, global e-commerce sales in the third quarter of this year increased by 13% year-on-year and 2% from the previous quarter.

Although sales figures have increased, data comparison shows that part of the increase is due to a sharp increase in product prices, which increased by about 12%. From the overall order volume, the number of orders has declined, down by about 2%.

Salesforce noted that the growth in online sales was made up of both growth in the number of shoppers and growth in spending, and this is the first time we have seen sales growth driven entirely by growth in consumer spending when the number of shoppers fell 2%.

The report pointed out that furniture prices rose the most, by 32%, followed by electronic products and toys, both up 21% from last year.

However, overall spending in the furniture category also saw the highest year-over-year growth, at 50%, while spending in the electronics and spare parts category saw the largest decline, at 9%.

According to analysis, due to the repeated outbreaks of the epidemic, many manufacturing countries have been affected by different degrees of blockade, resulting in factory shutdowns. In addition, unfavorable factors such as port congestion, cargo accumulation, and labor shortages have all contributed to the rise in furniture prices.

However, due to the epidemic, overseas, especially in the United States and Europe, where the epidemic has repeatedly occurred, working from home may become the norm in the short term. In addition, some companies such as Shopify and Sony will provide certain subsidies for home office furniture. These are the reasons for the growth in furniture sales. For furniture companies and sellers, it is also a good opportunity to increase exports.

The market predicts that home office upgrades will continue to lead the trend, such as desks and chairs, storage, and professional decoration. Fresh and beautiful wallpapers, indoor plants, smart lighting and other home decorations will also be favored by consumers. Sellers can refer to more in terms of product selection.

In addition, in categories such as beauty, toys, decoration and women's luggage, the price differences of new products launched in the third quarter were the most obvious. The average price was about 14% higher than in the third quarter of 2020 .

As for the reasons for the price increase, according to the latest financial reports released by several European and American companies, due to cost pressure, they have to raise product prices and pass on the pressure of rising raw material costs to consumers. Global supply chain issues are also a major obstacle.

Despite the impact of prices, the share of online sales of beauty products has continued to rise after the epidemic. Ascential's research and data insights department Retail Insight pointed out that sales will increase from 16.5% now to 23% by 2025.

Products such as beauty products, fashion apparel, and 3C products are more in line with consumer demand and have room for long-term growth. Relevant companies and sellers can refer to them when selecting products.
