eBay releases new rules: sellers with unqualified logistics services will have their funds frozen

Recently, eBay Australia announced that it would temporarily freeze funds for sellers with high service index evaluation rates. (Service index refers to the percentage of transactions where buyers filed "item not as described" return requests and "item not received" requests.)

eBay will evaluate whether to take temporary measures to freeze funds from a transaction perspective.

If the buyer chooses the tracking service and the seller has uploaded valid tracking information, in this case, eBay will release the temporarily frozen funds to the seller after the eBay system detects the first scan information from the logistics carrier.

If the buyer chooses the tracking service, but the seller does not upload valid tracking information, eBay will release the frozen funds to the seller 3 days after the estimated delivery date.

It should be noted that this measure only applies to transactions where the seller indicates that they provide tracking services in the item listing. If the seller uploads valid tracking information, eBay will release the temporarily frozen funds to the seller more quickly.

If sellers use a non-tracking logistics service to ship items, eBay recommends noting this in the item listing, as this temporary funds hold will not apply to these transactions.

eBay pointed out in the announcement that the temporary freeze on funds does not apply to the following transactions: items for which buyers choose local pickup service, items for which buyers choose online purchase + store pickup service, and items whose delivery service is Australia Post Domestic Ordinary Mail without tracking.

In addition to the logistics tracking factor, eBay said there are many other reasons that may cause the seller's funds to be temporarily frozen.

New or infrequent sellers may see their accounts suspended for up to 21 days, a move eBay says is intended to allow sellers to build a solid sales history on the platform.

Secondly, previously restricted sellers may also have their transaction amounts retained within 30 days after the suspension is lifted.

Additionally, high-priced items or unusual sales patterns may also cause funds to be frozen for up to 30 days until eBay confirms that there are no issues with the seller's order.

Sellers should pay close attention to these matters to avoid their accounts being frozen, which would affect subsequent fund flows.
