India's Grofers turns into an e-commerce company, promises to deliver products within 10 minutes

Recently, according to foreign media reports, India's online grocery delivery platform Grofers is currently preparing to transform into an e-commerce company. Their goal is to deliver the goods purchased by buyers, including mobile phones, within 10 minutes of receiving the order.

“Imagine if you could receive anything in less than 10 minutes. Like tea and milk for your breakfast. The perfect lipstick for tonight’s party. Even your iPhone. Imagine that it is our community entrepreneurs’ responsibility to deliver these to your store. We will become your neighbor, your friend, and that is the vision of Grofer,” Albinder Dhindsa, founder and CEO of Grofers, said in his blog on October 18.

According to media reports, the announcement comes after co-founder Saurabh Kumar exited Grofers in July. Kumar also owns a similar venture, Warpli, which will deliver products to customers within "hours or even minutes" of placing an order. Grofers has already started hiring the right workforce and could launch operations any time in a few months.

Grofers was founded in December 2013 with the goal of building community entrepreneurship by partnering with aspiring business women and men, according to a previous statement from the company . It has transformed from traditional retail stores, including clothing and electrical appliances , to a sales platform that fulfills orders from online customers.

According to a recent Redseer Consulting report, mobile phones accounted for 46% of the gross merchandise value (GMV) of e-commerce companies in the first week of festive sales this year. In addition to this, the Indian e-commerce industry is expected to reach $55 billion in sales in 2021 with 40 million new online shoppers.

So far, Grofers has been in talks with 86 offline owners in 13 cities and has received over 1 million orders in the past three months after launching its instant delivery service. Grofers offers a range of products including groceries, essentials, baby care, pet care and home decor items. They promise to continuously improve the system and deliver products to customers within 10 minutes.
