my country's shipbuilding orders surge
Due to the pandemic last year, the e-commerce markets in various countries have experienced a significant boom in development. Affected by market demand and supply chain, many large companies have started chartering ships to transport goods. In addition to the increase in sellers' orders and the prosperity of the logistics industry, not only have shipping companies made a lot of money, but the shipbuilding industry has also been overwhelmed with orders.
According to the latest data reported by CCTV, from January to September this year , China's shipbuilding completion volume increased by 6.2% year-on-year to 3034 deadweight tons, and the volume of newly accepted shipbuilding orders increased by 223.3% year-on-year to 54.156 million deadweight tons.
In terms of orders, the fastest-growing orders are mainly container ships and bulk carriers. As for the popularity of orders, as of now, most backbone shipyards have completed their annual order plans. Whether it is the number of completed ships, the number of new orders, or the number of orders on hand, our country has maintained the world's top market share in these three indicators.
However, affected by the rising cost of raw materials, the entire shipping industry is facing the phenomenon of "increased volume but no increased profits".
Serious backlog of cargo ships at ports
Although the number of ships has increased, the current ports are congested and cargo ships are facing a serious backlog . In particular, the backlogs in the two important ports in the United States, Los Angeles and Long Beach, are at a record high.
According to a local port employee, as major ports in the United States, Los Angeles and Long Beach ports saw record backlogs last month, with 65 cargo ships stranded off the coast waiting to dock and unload. Under this circumstance, Biden officially announced that the Port of Los Angeles will operate 24 hours a day to ease the cargo backlog.
The situation in the UK is equally grim, with Felixstowe being one of the affected ports. According to Maersk, “ In addition to the impact of the epidemic, the main factors behind this situation are high consumer demand and a lack of truck drivers for land transport distribution. ” The lack of truck drivers means there is nowhere to stack containers, and Maersk has moved some ships.
