According to foreign media reports, the Indian Consumer Protection Group recently expressed a view that due to the conflict of the Covid-19 epidemic, the market share and number of online shopping have continued to increase. In order to protect the interests of Indian consumers, e-tailers should display the seller's detailed information in a clear and understandable way, such as their name, address and contact information of the regulatory unit.
Subsequently, under the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, the Central Consumer Protection Authority of India (CCPA) issued advisories in this regard to all states and industry associations, and during its field investigations, it was found that some e-commerce entities in some markets did not display seller details.
Under Rule 5(3)(e) of the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, every marketplace e-commerce entity will have to provide all information of the sellers in a clear and accessible manner, including name and contact number and the designated supervisory authority for supervisory action or reporting of any other matter.
Anupam Mishra, Commissioner of India's Central Consumer Protection Authority ( CCPA), said : "Anyone found violating the above rules may face proceedings under the Act if, after investigation, the central authorities have reason to believe that the practice is unfair and prejudicial to the interests of consumers." In addition, Anupam Mishra emphasized that industry associations should impress upon their members to ensure compliance with the rules to ensure that consumers have access to adequate redress mechanisms when purchasing goods or services through e-commerce platforms.
According to survey data from the Indian Central Consumer Protection Authority ( CCPA), due to the safety measures and movement restrictions implemented by the Indian government during the epidemic, more and more Indian consumers choose e-commerce as a medium for purchasing goods and services during the epidemic prevention period. Therefore, current consumer complaints are also mainly directed at e-tailers.
According to Indian government data, the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) received 69,208 complaints against the e-commerce industry between April and July this year , the highest compared to other industries such as banking and telecommunications. India E-commerce Seller |
