Today, Amazon US issued three consecutive announcements regarding value-added tax (VAT).
In the first announcement, Amazon said that the new Thai Value Added Tax (VAT) rules will officially apply from September 1, 2021. Amazon said that under this new rule, Amazon will charge sellers located in Thailand a standard tax rate of 7%. If sellers can submit a valid Thai VAT ID to Amazon, they can avoid double taxation.
According to Amazon’s announcement, the process for submitting a valid Thai VAT ID is as follows:
1. Log in to Seller Center 2. Under Settings, click Account Information 3. In the Tax Information section, click VAT Information 4. From the list of countries, select Thailand 5. Add your Thai VAT number 6. Click I accept and confirm all conditions stipulated in the tax registration agreement 7. Click Save
In the second announcement, Amazon stated that due to the policy requirements of the Bahraini government, non-resident companies providing e-commerce services need to collect Bahraini VAT at a rate of 5% when providing such services to Bahraini sellers. According to this new regulation, Amazon emphasizes that certain services provided to Bahraini sellers (such as: I want to open a store) are subject to Bahraini VAT.
In the third announcement, Amazon stated that due to the policy requirements of the Bahamian government, non-resident companies providing e-commerce services need to collect Bahamian VAT at a rate of 5% when providing such services to Bahamian sellers. According to this new regulation, Amazon emphasizes that certain services provided to Bahamian sellers (such as: I want to open a store) are subject to Bahamian VAT.
As soon as the three new regulations came out, sellers were talking about it, and some sellers even suspected the "Amazon conspiracy theory."
Seller A: When will this VAT madness end? We had a great 20 years before the federal government got involved in cross-border e-commerce.
Seller B: I would like to know how much revenue the Bahamian government is able to get from VAT? I suspect that the money goes to Amazon. If it is a VAT system, then any business can recover the VAT through the tax system. Only unregistered VAT businesses and individuals pay the VAT, which cannot be refunded.
The editor would like to remind you that you must conduct business operations in accordance with policies, pay taxes legally and in compliance with regulations, and avoid unnecessary losses. Amazon policy tax |
