CCI no longer handles cases related to Amazon seller services

Recently, according to foreign media reports, India's fair trade regulator CCI decided last week to no longer deal with matters related to Amazon seller services.

The regulator has been investigating the matter since a Reuters report last year said that Amazon was suspected of promoting its own product lines in India by producing counterfeit goods and manipulating search results, after examining thousands of pages of internal Amazon documents .

Following this, the Competition Commission of India ( CCI) has asked the company to produce relevant documents . The regulator said ; The Commission has taken cognizance of the submissions received by ASSPL, which categorically denies the allegations contained in the report and has decided not to proceed with this investigation at this stage .

The regulator also said that if an Amazon seller or any of its related businesses is found to have acted inconsistently with the Competition Act 2002, or if the submission is found to be incorrect, then the order will not go into the content of the examination of the entity’s conduct , whether in the past, present or future.

However, sellers seem to be used to such incidents. Some sellers said that these behaviors are "abnormal traffic tilt". Some sellers also said "it's normal, aren't many search engines like this?"

In the past two years, Amazon's business development in India has not been smooth sailing.

Just last week, CCI also announced the dismissal of complaints against Shopee and Amazon. The complainants accused the two platforms of imitating the operation methods of large e-commerce platforms and offering large discounts, and Amazon of engaging in unfair trading.

However, based on the investigation results, the above allegations were not established .

Although Amazon has encountered some "episodes" in the Indian market, overall, its development momentum remains strong. Data shows that since January 2020, the base of Indian exporters on the Amazon platform has increased by about 66% to more than 100,000 , with cumulative exports exceeding US$3 billion.
