Recently, according to foreign media reports, Shopee has achieved success in its first Latin American market.
Since entering the Brazilian market in Latin America in 2019, Shopee has become the most downloaded shopping app in Brazil and is now closing in on Mercado Livre, which dominates the Brazilian market. In early 2021, Shopee's parent company Sea Ltd. decided to enter three other countries in the region - Mexico, Colombia and Chile. Within a few months, Shopee also topped the download list.
According to daily app ranking data from AppAnnie and Similarweb, Shopee is currently ranked first on both iOS and Android in Colombia, first on Android and iOS in Chile, and fifth on Android and iOS in Mexico.
In addition, the continuous increase in Shopee's website visits also reflects its rapid development in Latin America. Although Shopee has not yet disclosed relevant data for Chile, in Mexico, it has increased from 180,000 visitors in the first month (March 2021) to nearly 2.5 million in August. Shopee is also expected to double its share of network traffic in other markets by the end of the year, promoting a surge in e-commerce consumption.
Sea Ltd. also plans to enter the European market and plans to launch a Shopee-related shopping application in Poland . At present, according to staff reports, Shopee has already built a platform and recruited a team of sellers in the local area .
Shopee 's previous expansion targets were mainly some developing countries. These countries were chosen because a large number of young, internet-savvy people are eager to participate in the rapidly opening digital economy. Domestic e-commerce penetration rates are still low, but are in a rapid growth stage, so there is a large consumer market and room for development.
So far, Shopee has been relatively low-key in some markets where e-commerce is relatively mature. For Japan, South Korea and China , most of Shopee 's business is focused on recruiting sellers who intend to sell overseas.
Poland has mature and powerful domestic e-commerce companies Allegro and Amazon, which recently launched their official websites in the country. Shopee's entry into Poland is bound to start a "fierce battle" with established e-commerce companies. The Polish market has a higher saturation of online shopping services, a longer history of e-commerce development, and more mature competitors. This may be a bold attempt by Shopee to test its capabilities. Shopee Europe Latin America |
