Walmart opens GoLocal delivery service to other retailers

The upcoming holiday shopping season will see a surge in package volume. UPS CEO Carol Tomei estimates that about 5 million packages will need to be delivered every day during the holiday season, and some small suppliers are unable to meet this demand. A new service launched by Walmart may help these retailers alleviate the difficulties of package transportation during the holiday season.

Yesterday, Walmart launched a new delivery service called Walmart GoLocal , which allows other retailers to use Walmart's delivery platform to deliver goods to consumers . Retailers can rely on Walmart's existing delivery network to provide various types of delivery services, including regular delivery and same-day delivery, and can improve their own delivery capabilities .

Walmart 's GoLocal service is built on its efficient delivery capabilities. Over the past three years, Walmart has been working to expand the scale of its in-house express delivery service. Walmart's delivery service covers more than 160,000 items from more than 3,000 stores , covering nearly 70% of the U.S. population . Walmart is now preparing to provide these same features to other merchants in the United States through the GoLocal service .

There is no size requirement for merchants who want to participate in the GoLocal service , nor do they have to sell on the Walmart market. Any retailer can choose to use the service. They only need to insert the API provided by Walmart into the existing business platform . When consumers place an order, the platform will remind GoLocal to dispatch drivers to pick up and deliver the goods , and Walmart can receive delivery experience feedback.

Retailers also don’t have to worry about using Walmart’s GoLocal service affecting their own brands. Because GoLocal is a white-label service, GoLocal does not use vehicles with Walmart logos when making deliveries, and consumers will not realize that their packages are delivered by Walmart.

It is reported that some retailers have signed up with GoLocal, including some national retailers , whose names have not been disclosed . In addition, Walmart declined to disclose the specific details of the fee structure of the plan . Walmart said that the price is customized according to the individual needs of each retailer , but it will be competitive.

Walmart is currently expanding its revenue channels by meeting the needs of other retailers. For example, Walmart’s recently announced move to sell its e-commerce technology to retailers is part of Walmart ’s broader strategy .
