Enterprise Ghana and Mastercard join forces with companies to support women and young entrepreneurs

The Ghana Enterprise Authority (GEA) and the Mastercard Foundation have announced a partnership with two African e-commerce operators, Plendify Inc. and Tonaton.com, to create an online marketplace to support the growth of women and young entrepreneurs , promote their products and help them connect with global customers.

Plendify Inc. and Tonaton.com focus on e-commerce, retail and financial technology. They have been at the forefront of e-commerce development in Ghana for many years and are leaders in e-commerce in Africa.

This cooperation integrates decades of experience of several companies and opens up channels for enterprises to enter local and international markets . Not only does it enable young people and female entrepreneurs to benefit from global e-commerce and digital marketing development opportunities , but more importantly, this cooperation provides a steady stream of employment opportunities for young people in Ghana .

It is reported that the project is directly under the SME part of the Mastercard Foundation and GEA Youth Africa Work Project, aiming to support the development of female entrepreneurs through brand building, business promotion and entry into new markets .

The online concept store , themed “Made in Ghana” , will sell products from MSMEs in the following categories :

Ghanaian owned /led businesses, women owned/led businesses, businesses with at least five employees (permanent and temporary) , women owned start-ups and unique product offerings , etc.

According to the editor, in March this year , GEA and Lokko House Limited announced a similar collaboration to support women-owned small and medium-sized enterprises to sell their products online .

The e-commerce market is growing rapidly , and with it comes the need for more measures to help women and young entrepreneurs scale their businesses and enter new markets.

“That’s why we are excited about this partnership and we hope that more organizations will get involved to help women- and youth-owned MSMEs scale up their businesses , said GEA CEO Kosi Yankey-Ayeh .

Nathalie Akon Gabala, Regional Director for Africa at the Mastercard Foundation, also said, “In an increasingly digital world, providing women and young entrepreneurs with access to digital market platforms will help accelerate the growth of their businesses and strengthen their ability to seize global opportunities to expand their businesses .
