UK Post Office announces partnership with DPD

With the rapid development of e-commerce, the number of express parcels has also surged, and the convenience of online shopping and express delivery services has become more important. Facing the upcoming peak sales season for online shopping in the second half of the year, express delivery service providers have also begun to prepare.

Yesterday, the British Post Office announced a partnership with DPD, one of the most famous logistics operators in Europe. The British Post Office will jointly launch the "Click and Collect" service with DPD to provide consumers with a more convenient and quick way to pick up goods.

The Post Office, the UK's largest retail network with 11,500 branches, previously had an exclusive partnership with the Royal Mail. The partnership with DPD is the first time in its 360-year history that the Post Office has worked with an operator other than the Royal Mail.

DPD will start delivering parcels to about 250 branches of the UK Post Office next week, and the service will be extended to about 1,500 branches across the UK before the Christmas shopping peak. DPD is responsible for delivering parcels to post offices, and consumers can choose the post office closest to them as the pickup location.

Post Office chief executive Nick Reid said: “I’m delighted that through our partnership with DPD, customers can choose their local Post Office to collect their parcels. It has longer opening hours and is closer to where they live.”

Elaine Kerr, DPD chief executive, said: “This is an important long-term partnership between two brand leaders in the parcel industry, which will provide consumers with greater choice when shopping online.”

In addition, the cooperation between the UK Post Office and DPD is an important step towards environmental sustainability. DPD delivers parcels directly to local post offices, which can reduce the impact on the environment caused by multiple stops of trucks to deliver parcels. According to a study by the DPD Group, using click and collect can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 63% compared to door-to-door delivery services.

In recent months, DPD has announced a series of green initiatives, including the launch of an air monitoring program and the use of electric vehicles for delivery services. DPD also said it would provide all-electric delivery services to 10 major towns and 25 locations by the end of this year, and the vision of zero-carbon emission last-mile delivery is gradually becoming a reality.
