Recently, Amazon US released a new announcement : it adjusted the prepaid return label plan for sellers’ self-delivered orders , exempted some categories from prepaid returns, and simplified the process of applying for exemptions. The announcement shows that individual sellers will join Amazon's prepaid return label program from July 1, 2021. After that, self-delivered returns from US sellers that meet Amazon's return policy standards will be automatically authorized, and Amazon will provide customers with prepaid return shipping labels on behalf of sellers.
Only some return requests that do not meet Amazon's return policy criteria or are exempt from prepaid returns will be sent to the seller for confirmation.
At the same time, there have been new changes to the prepaid return label exemption process . Returns for some product categories will be automatically exempted from prepaid returns and will be sent to sellers for authorization, including: handmade, Amazon customized, sexual health, certified second-hand watch products, etc.
In addition, the process for applying for exemptions for prepaid return labels has been simplified , so sellers will no longer be able to apply for exemptions for dangerous goods, large items over a certain weight, etc. However, sellers can apply for exemptions for high-value items that require special transportation.
Sellers expressed different opinions on this new announcement from Amazon US.
Seller A said: I think they missed a scenario in this listing, such as "buyer error return", which requires the buyer to pay for the return shipping label.
Seller B: Seller is now paying for all returns and being charged by Amazon for return labels, guess the prices will go up on all items/listings for all 3rd party sellers.
Seller C: Amazon sacrificed us, this is a scam
Judging from the comments of sellers in the seller forum, sellers have different opinions on this policy. Returns have always been a headache for sellers, and how to properly solve the return problem has always troubled sellers.
