FedEx releases new notice! Shipping costs will increase on June 21st

Recently, FedEx Express issued a new notice stating that starting from June 21, online sellers shipping through FedEx may face a new round of surcharges, such as peak surcharges, residential delivery fees, and additional operating fees.

The channels involved are also very wide, including a 50-cent increase in the "Peak-Additional Handling Surcharge" for US express parcel services, US ground services, and international ground services .

The Loadstar, a logistics publication , has a good explanation of the changes that are taking place, saying that the 2020 pandemic has led to the development of e-commerce, resulting in a surge in online shopping, which in turn has strained its systems and increased costs. In order to maintain its good service levels, FedEx must charge corresponding additional fees and.

It’s worth noting that while FedEx and UPS used to treat the “peak” period as the holiday shopping season, the new peak surcharges appear to have become the new normal. Both US integrators have extended their traditional peak season surcharges indefinitely beyond the customary cut-off point in mid-January this year.

Logistics consultant Cathy Roberson noted that FedEx is also adjusting its fuel tables for ground, freight and express, which could mean higher fuel surcharges — not to mention that starting in June, FedEx will also levy a 6% late fee on unpaid orders along with invoices.

Relatedly, FedEx will maintain a $30 per piece surcharge for oversized shipments shipped on U.S. air and ground services and international ground deliveries .

Foreign media reported the new surcharges and made a blunt assessment. Analysts and shippers complained that these fees appeared as FedEx reported excellent financial results to Wall Street, and these fees were attributed to peak surcharges by FedEx. It can be seen that in the post-epidemic era, e-commerce is still developing, and sellers may also usher in new cost increases while orders are booming .

To better understand FedEx's additional handling surcharges , relevant sellers can check the FedEx official website for more relevant information to make the latest preparations.
