Lotte Shopping, Shinsegae Group and others participate in the acquisition of eBay Korea

According to the Korean distribution industry on the 13th, Lotte Shopping, Shinsegae E-Mart, SK Telecom, and private equity fund MBK Partners participated in the acquisition of eBay Korea .

Now , the competition between Lotte and Shinsegae is attracting attention . Lotte Group Business Division Head Kang Hee-tae and E-Mart CEO Kang Hee-seok have recently expressed their interest in e- B ay Korea in public .

Although Shinsegae has consolidated its online position through the SSG website, Lotte on is still struggling, so some analysts believe that Lotte has shown a more positive attitude towards acquiring eB ay Korea .

However, from Shinsegae's perspective, if it acquires eBay Korea, it will be difficult to easily exit the online market as it can stand alongside Naver and Coupang .

In addition, the key issue is the price . The highest selling price of eBay Korea may be 5 trillion won, but the industry believes that it is likely to be sold at a price lower than this. This is because they are worried that in the case of drastic changes in the circulation market, excessively high prices will lead to the "winner's curse".

The main bidding period is expected to be late May to early June, and there is talk that the schedule could be delayed due to intense interest and disagreements over the timing of the sale price.

Some people also pointed out that just like SSG's recent acquisition of the women's clothing platform W Concept, Lotte and Shinsegae may not choose eBay Korea, which has a higher cost burden, and may focus on building a "small and smart" new platform.

A person in charge of the distribution industry said : "Take eBay Korea as an example. On top of the acquisition cost of several trillion won, it is necessary to make a large-scale investment to create the best results in the future . A new platform that can effectively expand the business field with a relatively small amount of money can also bring benefits to large distribution companies. "

It is reported that large distribution companies and private equity funds participated in the preliminary bidding for Yoyoyo held in April.

Since SSG.com is included in the "suitable candidate list", the outcome of the sale of eBay Korea will also affect the acquisition of Yoyoyo.

With the Fair Trade Commission's conditional approval of DH's acquisition of Yoyoyo, the deadline for the sale must be extended to early August, which means it can be extended by 6 months if the Fair Trade Commission's permission is obtained .
