eBay reduces commissions for low-value tech products in Australia and removes $250 threshold

According to an announcement released by the eBay community, for every first-tier technology product sold under $250, sellers will receive a discount of nearly $305 on the final value fee. However, this fee reduction policy only applies to items such as mobile phones, laptops, game consoles and home appliances under $250. The preferential object is all eBay sellers who have signed up for a managed payment method and subscribed to a store.

eBay has always maintained its leading position among Australia's e-commerce platforms. Foreign media have previously reported that eBay Australia's monthly active buyers increased by 1 million, reaching a total of 12 million. The epidemic has ignited Australians' enthusiasm for online shopping, and convenience and affordability have become the most attractive features for Australian consumers.

More than half ( 58%) of Australians said that online shopping is very safe, and nearly four-fifths (81%) believe that online shopping is more cost-effective than physical stores. According to the "Lockdown: One Year On" report released by eBay, since 2020, the sales of epidemic prevention products on eBay Australia have soared, with hand sanitizer sales increasing by 4,000%, and masks growing at an astonishing rate of more than 7,000 times.

In addition, working from home and watching TV series as a pastime during the epidemic have also brought a series of products to the forefront. Three-quarters of people working from home said they had more time to browse the web and buy goods, and men were more likely than women to participate in online shopping while at home. During the popular broadcast of "Lego Masters" in Australia, three sets of Lego blocks were sold on eBay every minute, and the sales of Chicago Bulls jerseys also increased by 283% during the popular broadcast of "The Last Dance".

On Monday, eBay also announced that it is making its Terapeak product research tool free to all sellers. Previously, sellers had to pay for an eBay store subscription to use the tool for free.

Through the Terapeak product research tool, eBay can provide sellers with market data, such as product sales and sales volume, which sellers can use to optimize their product names, detailed descriptions, prices, etc. However, taking the new Terapeak Sourcing Insights tool as an example, sellers still need to subscribe to the store before they can access other eBay research tools provided by the Terapeak brand.
