Some companies that sell and install pools and hot tubs in Canada say they've never seen demand as frenetic as this year's — and those looking to buy will have to be prepared to wait.
A local merchant who has been in business for 25 years said that since last year, the demand for hot tubs and swimming pools in the entire PEI (Prince Edward Island) region of Canada has increased greatly, so that the supply of local swimming pools and hot tubs has become increasingly difficult: " We found that no matter what products are on the shelves, they are almost sold out. "
Google Trends shows that in the past 30 days, the search popularity of the keyword "pool " has remained high. Among the related searches, the search volume of "canada games pool" has soared by 400%. The search volume of " pool supplies canada" and "canada pool supplies " as synonyms has also surged by 300%.
At this time of year in previous years, the business was still struggling to open up sales for summer and fall pool and hot tub business, but this year the situation is different - all 2021 installation reservations were booked months in advance.
"Our orders were already full last September." The merchant said he had never seen such high demand and hoped that this trend would continue: "Our installation activities in 2022 have been booked."
The situation is not unique to PEI, with companies across Canada struggling to keep up with the growing demand and insufficient supply of products such as pools, cabanas, chemicals and accessories.
"Everything is in such great demand, and everything is in short supply." Suppliers said that from pool toys to cleaning supplies, customers have been coming to stores to buy products in bulk since last winter, and some are worried that they will not be able to find these products in the summer.
The merchant analyzed that it might be because everyone stayed at home and couldn't travel during the epidemic, so more and more customers went to the store to find ways to entertain themselves at home: "It's as if people suddenly decided, 'If we have to stay at home, let's spend money in our backyard.'"
However, in Charlottetown, the capital of PEI, any non-inflatable swimming pool requires a development permit, and the pool must be completely surrounded by a fence or structure at least 6 feet high. The opportunity for Chinese sellers is not in pool installation, but in products such as inflatable pools, pool toys, cleaning supplies and bathing accessories.
According to data from the eBay platform, the epidemic has caused European and American consumers to worry about personal hygiene. Coupled with the trend of home DIY renovation, bathroom hardware has become one of the categories with a significant increase in demand in 2020.
For Chinese sellers, this is still a blank market. Currently, only a group of pioneers, relying on years of traditional foreign trade experience and keen insight into consumer habits, are quickly learning from European and American design trends and adding functional expansion to smart bathroom products. They are emerging as a new force with rapid growth.
