Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Google has released data on how consumers search for their favorite products, including relevant search data on Google Search, Google Maps, YouTube, etc. For example, the best bikes, best ring lights, and best air fryers that were popular in 2020 have increased by 100% or more year-on-year.
In fact, in addition to searching for products they want to buy online on Google, consumers also search nearby on Google to find the products they want to buy. On Google, the most popular terms searched by consumers are:
Searches related to "local" and "business" increased by more than 80% year-on-year, and these search terms included "local businesses near me" and "support local businesses", which may be related to the large-scale support for domestic products launched in the United States.
In addition, searches for "who has" and "is in stock" increased by more than 8,000% year-on-year, including searches for "who has "Nintendo Switch in stock" and "who has fitness equipment." This shows the shopping trends of American consumers during the epidemic, with games and fitness becoming popular categories.
In terms of dining search trends, two-thirds of restaurant consumers said they used Google Search to find food and beverage information during the COVID-19 pandemic , while 57% of restaurant consumers said they found food and beverage related information through Google's online ads during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Google Maps, consumers' top brand searches were Walmart, Starbucks, Home Depot, Target, McDonald's, Costco, Chick-fil-A, Walgreens, CVS and Bank of America.
In addition, a recent US Google study investigated the search trends related to consumer shopping on YouTube and found that 45% of YouTube viewers said they would watch product demonstrations before buying. YouTube viewers also said that they were twice as likely to buy goods in physical stores or online as the competitive average, and video advertising is also an important channel to attract consumers to buy.
Meanwhile, in the United States, searches for “curbside pickup” on Google Maps increased by 9,000% year-over-year, searches related to the word “discount” increased by more than 100% year-over-year, and searches for “gift shop” on Google Maps increased by more than 60% year-over-year globally.
For sellers, they can also check more related search trends on Google to understand the preferences of global consumers, select products for the categories they operate at one time, and usher in real explosive sales. Popular Search Trends |
