The average consumer has 8 social media accounts! Social media usage in the Middle East increased significantly in 2020

Previously, the Middle East New Media Academy released its first social media report " How to Use Social Media in the Middle East in 2020 ". Let's take a look at how Middle Eastern consumers use social media!

1. Social media users in MEA (Middle East and Africa) spend an average of more than three and a half hours on social networks every day .

2. In May last year, more than half ( 57% ) of MEA users reported that they spent more time on social media due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

3. In another study , 71% of respondents in the Middle East said that the use of WhatsApp and other messaging apps has increased since the outbreak of the pandemic.

4. 75% of users said their consumption on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok has increased due to social distancing .

5. Research by GWI revealed that the average internet user in the Middle East has 8.4 social media accounts .

6. According to Forbes , the average UAE user has 10.5 social media accounts, the highest number of social media accounts per capita in the world .

7. Egypt is Facebook's ninth-largest national market in the world, with 440,000 users as of October last year .

8. According to data from We Are Social and Hootsuite , Libya (100%) , UAE (93%) and Qatar (90%) are the countries with the highest Facebook reach.

9. Egypt , Morocco and Algeria are among the top 10 regions with the fastest growth in Facebook users.

10. Saudi Arabia (17.9 million users) , Turkey (9.7 million) , Iraq (9.6 million) and Egypt (8.9 million) rank 5th, 10th, 11th and 13th respectively among Snapchat ’s top 13 markets worldwide .

11. Snapchatters in the UAE , Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait spent 77 minutes per day on the app during Ramadan 2020 .

12. As of October 2020, Snapchat now has 67 million monthly unique users in the region, a year-over-year increase of 38%.

13. More than 85% of Snapchatters in MENA interact with Lenses every day .

14. Turkey (44 million), Saudi Arabia (15 million), and Egypt (14 million) rank 6th, 16th, and 20th, respectively, in terms of the largest audiences by country on Instagram worldwide.

15. More than half of online users in Kuwait (4th/66%) , Turkey (5th/66%) , Bahrain (9th/61%) and Israel (17th/56%) use Instagram.

16. 79% of Arab youth say they get their news from social media. This is a significant increase from 25% in 2015 , according to the latest Arab Social Media report .

17. Lebanese pop singer Elissa is the most influential Arab on Twitter and the only Arab among the 50 most powerful international influencers on the social network , according to a report released by Brandwatch .

18. Top TikTok influencers in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) increased their followers by an average of 65% between February and August 2020. The highest engagement was seen in Bahrain , Oman, and Saudi Arabia , Anavizio Data Solutions reports .

19. 70% of Egyptian internet users watch YouTube every day .

20. Six YouTube creators have claimed a Guinness World Record title for Ramadan after 183,544 viewers joined their Eid livestreams .
