Yesterday, eBay officially released a new notice in the community: "UPS announced rate adjustments effective April 11, 2021." The announcement stated that UPS announced rate adjustments for all shipping services under the eBay label.
Starting April 11, 2021, sellers on eBay can see that UPS rates for lighter, shorter-distance packages have dropped to 3.5%, while UPS rates for heavier, longer-distance packages have increased to 5%. In addition, to better plan shipping costs, UPS also stated that UPS Next Day Air® and UPS 2nd Day Air® services will not incur residential or delivery area surcharges like UPS® Ground services.
Not only that, after the new rates take effect, the discount on the new UPS® Ground shipping rates on the eBay label can be increased from up to 48% to 50%, while the discount on UPS 2nd Day Air® service can be increased from up to 62% to 66%, and the discount from 62% to 65% also applies to UPS Next Day Air® service.
Sellers can print UPS labels from their own homes or offices , or download a QR code to scan at a UPS store to get discounts. It is worth noting that these discounts and prices are limited to packages shipped from the United States, and prices and discounts are subject to change at any time.
In fact, since December last year, there have been reports that the average increase in UPS Ground, Air and international services will reach 4.9%, which is comparable to UPS's 2019-2020 increase and FedEx's 2021 GRI increase. Almost all surcharges have increased by more than 4.9%. Starting January 10, any package with a length plus girth exceeding 105 inches will be subject to additional handling fees.
However, judging from the new official announcement released by eBay, UPS's rate adjustment is a "privilege" only for eBay sellers. However, this blessing may not be what every seller wants, especially sellers of large items.
There have been media reports before that when a Shenzhen seller used a UPS cash on delivery account to ship goods to an American customer, the customer promised the seller that he would pay the shipping fee. However, the seller later received a claim notice from UPS, requiring the seller to pay a shipping fee of 7,531.93 yuan. UPS's explanation for this matter was that the American customer refused to pay the order shipping fee, and the company demanded payment from Mr. Cao in accordance with the terms.
The seller stated that when communicating with the customer via email, the customer clearly stated that he would handle the matter with UPS USA. The customer later told the seller that the reply he received from contacting UPS was that the two parties did not have any outstanding invoices, and he did not understand why UPS asked Mr. Cao for shipping fees.
"So UPS USA has completely failed to fulfill its debt collection purpose. Instead, it immediately passed the problem on to the domestic sender, using their so-called industry practices." Although it is not uncommon for customers to change their mind and refuse to pay shipping fees to UPS, the cost of default for customers is very low due to UPS's own terms. logistics E-commerce platform eBay Platform |
