The latest data on online shopping by British consumers is released: Tiktok has become the main battlefield of social e-commerce

Recently, the latest statistics released by Uswitch website show that the online shopping behavior of British consumers has changed dramatically. British shoppers spend three times the global average on online platforms, with the average online shopping expenditure per person reaching 1,382 pounds per year.

The survey collected information on shopping time, shopping location and other shopping habits of 4,380 British online shoppers. The analysis showed that since 2020, the influence of social media on consumers has increased, and the decline of offline shopping models has also prompted British shoppers to turn to online platforms for shopping.

Website data shows that with the development and popularization of smartphone payment applications such as Apple Pay and PayPal, British consumers can enjoy a more convenient payment experience.

As payment and shopping methods become more convenient, the shopping locations of British consumers are becoming more and more diverse. Whether at home or in the office, shopping anytime and anywhere has become the norm for British consumers.

At the same time, nearly 63% of British consumers said that they shop most frequently between the 1st and 5th of each month, as this period is usually payday for British consumers.

The survey data found that 94% of the respondents said they made "compulsive purchases" at least once a month, and there were also many consumers who made impulse purchases. The average monthly spending of British consumers on impulse purchases was 102 pounds, and 23% of the respondents admitted that they spent more than 500 pounds on a single item in a year. This fully shows that online shopping information is increasingly influxing into the daily lives of British consumers, shoppers are more easily influenced by relevant online shopping information, and their shopping flexibility is stronger.

It is worth noting that according to data from the Uswitch website, more than 53 million active social media users in the UK also have great online shopping capabilities. Social e-commerce is also attracting more and more merchants. 41% of British consumers said that when learning about the latest shopping trends, the most commonly used social platform is TikTok, and 37% of respondents said they are willing to shop directly through social platforms such as TikTok.

In addition, Instagram has also gained favor among consumers and businesses. The UK currently has more than 30 million platform users, and 27% of respondents said they are most likely to use the platform to find the latest shopping trends.

The website predicts that social media will further influence the shopping needs and purchasing trends of British consumers in 2021. Sellers can pay more attention to these platforms and seize opportunities.
