ShopBack provides users with cashback services for e-commerce products through its platform . It has over 19 million users and covers products including fashion, health and beauty, groceries and food delivery. Recently, ShopBack conducted a survey of 2,200 respondents from all over Indonesia . 64% of the respondents were female and 36% were male, aged between 18-55 years old . In addition, 50% of the respondents were married and the remaining 50% were single; 77% of the respondents lived in Java. Galuh Chandra Kirana, regional general manager of ShopBack Indonesia, said that during Ramadan, online shopping remained the favorite shopping method chosen by 73% of respondents. Among those who shop online , more than 60% of respondents shop once a week or more , with the peak of online shopping occurring during the third week of Ramadan ( April 26 to May 2), and the favorite shopping time being 19.00-23.00 . ShopBack also noted that 98% of respondents prefer shopping via apps over desktop. However, offline shopping activities are growing rapidly , with 24% of respondents saying they shop online and offline with the same frequency . According to Galuh, there are differences in the product categories that respondents buy between online and offline shopping. The main product categories purchased online during Ramadan are fashion and beauty (makeup and skincare) products, while respondents prefer to buy food and beverage products and daily necessities online. Galuh added that the Indonesian economy and people’s daily lives have indeed been challenging since 2020, but by constantly studying consumer behavior, we can understand the situation and economic strength of society so that sellers can formulate relevant marketing plans . “I believe we can also leverage the digital shift that’s happening with consumers to accelerate things back to normal,” Galuh said . Galuh also explained why respondents still shop offline for three main reasons: one is the need to see the goods in person, two is to use them immediately after purchase , and three is the urgent need to go out because people have been staying at home for a long time .
In addition, Shopee, Tokopedia and Lazada were named as the three most visited e-commerce platforms during Ramadan. Attractive promotions , free shipping , interesting ads and free shipping remained the main factors influencing the respondents’ choices.
The third reason people choose to shop online is the wide variety of products available in e-commerce so that respondents can find what they want. Regarding online promotions, 74% of respondents admitted to waiting for online promotions before choosing to shop, while 56% of respondents were willing to stay up late to wait for promotions. At the same time, e-wallets , cash on delivery and mobile bank transfers are still the three most popular payment methods for respondents. Indonesia ShopBack |
