With a turnover of over 400 million yuan, Russian e-commerce company Ozon has achieved explosive growth in Tatarstan

Ozon's turnover in Tatarstan exceeds 400 million yuan

Ozon 's public information shows that as of the end of 2020, Ozon's turnover in Tatarstan exceeded 4.8 billion rubles (about 430 million yuan). At the same time, Ozon's turnover growth in Tatarstan (215%) was higher than the growth rate of Ozon as a whole (140%), becoming a major driving force for Ozon.

In 2020 , Ozon delivered more than 2.2 million orders in Tatarstan, a year-on-year increase of 189%. Looking at last year's product sales, care and beauty, groceries, printed books, baby food, and creative hobby products became the favorites of Tatarstan residents.

In addition, some newly added product categories also showed significant sales growth, such as jewelry sales increased by nearly 8 times, furniture increased by 5.7 times, and large household appliances increased by 5.3 times.

Tatarstan sellers' sales increased 17 times

Ozon said that the growth in turnover is inseparable from the growth of sellers in the region. In 2020, the number of Tatarstan sellers on Ozon increased 9 times year-on-year , with about 500 Tatarstan sellers selling their products on Ozon.

Tatarstan sellers generally sell household goods, maternal and child products, clothing, and DIY handicrafts on Ozon. As of the end of 2020, the total sales of Tatarstan sellers on Ozon increased 17 times.

Rustem Kasimov, director of Ozon Volga region, said: "Last year, Tatarstan sellers earned about 1.2 billion rubles on Ozon, while the year before was less than 70 million rubles." He said that this is the significance of e-commerce platforms, bringing together millions of buyers and thousands of sellers, so that both sides can get what they need. Moreover, online channels have eliminated many traditional offline obstacles, and Tatarstan sellers have also realized this and are increasingly actively entering e-commerce platforms.

According to the Russian Association of E-Commerce Enterprises (AKIT), the e-commerce market in Tatarstan grew by 34% last year to around 67 billion rubles (about 6 billion yuan), and the penetration rate of online retail in the region's total retail sales increased from 5% in 2019 to 7%.

This market has also attracted the attention of other e-commerce companies. Not long ago, AliExpress Russia invested in Kazan Express in Tatarstan to increase orders in Kazan (the capital of Tatarstan) and build warehouse infrastructure.
