New customer numbers quadrupled year-on-year, with record growth for Nautilus in the US

Nautilus, a Vancouver-based manufacturer of home fitness equipment, recently released a record fourth-quarter earnings report. Due to the impact of the epidemic, consumers have a strong demand for home fitness equipment, and this trend has driven the company's significant growth in performance.

Nautilus sales hit record high

"We had not only a good fourth quarter, but our best quarter in revenue in the 35-year history of this company," Chief Executive Jim Barr said on a call with investors and analysts on Monday.

Nautilus' direct and retail businesses experienced their strongest sales quarter ever, with total sales of $189.3 million, up 81.7% year-over-year. Its gross profit was $77.9 million, up 104.1% year-over-year. Full-year 2020 net sales were reported at $552.6 million, compared to $309.3 million in 2019.

Moreover, Nautilus performs very well in all fields and channels .

Jim Barr said Nautilus' sales could have been higher if it hadn't been for a severe shortage of containers in December that prevented orders worth about $16 million from being shipped as scheduled.

The number of new customers increased fourfold year-on-year

Nautilus saw a 4x increase in new customers in 2020 compared to 2019. Traffic to its fitness equipment brand bowflex.com grew roughly threefold throughout the year, and traffic to schwinnfitness.com grew fourfold.

Cardio equipment accounted for a large share of sales, especially the Schwinn IC4 and other exercise bike products, according to a company news release.

Today, Nautilus is a more trend-driven and digitally advanced company whose long-term vision and strategy will lead Nautilus to become a sustainable industry leader.

Nautilus continues to build on its long-standing relationships with its top partners and builds on its recent expansion with Best Buy, Costco in the U.S. and Costco in Canada , and has added Shields to its roster of key retailer partners.

The pandemic has fueled demand for home fitness equipment , and Jim Barr said he plans to continue to focus on improving Nautilus ' supply chain and inventory capabilities in 2021 to fill the remaining gaps. He said that so far, the increased demand during the pandemic has not subsided, and even if the vaccine is widely promoted , this demand will not drop significantly.

Therefore, the demand for home fitness equipment will remain strong, which is undoubtedly good news for related retailers and brands.
