Affected by the Chinese New Year celebrations at home, many Malaysian families relied on giving gifts to relatives and friends to congratulate them and to provide them with sufficient necessities. The number of parcels nationwide increased by more than two times compared to the same period in 2020 , and the number of express parcels between Malaysia and Singapore also increased by nearly 10 times . It is understood that the number of express delivery vehicles at the Malaysia-Singapore border has doubled to nearly 200 vehicles compared to last year in order to reduce the time spent on delivery. It is expected that the volume of parcels will gradually decrease after this month and logistics operations will return to smooth sailing. Meanwhile, the number of parcel deliveries handled by Pos Laju, Shopee Xpress and logistics company J&T has increased this year. Shopee regional managing director Ho Chi Xiang pointed out that Shopee Xpress express delivery service had to quickly handle more than double the number of parcel deliveries at the beginning of this year compared to the same period last year, including New Year gift baskets that people sent to their relatives and friends. It is worth noting that during Malaysia’s second round of movement control order, consumers continued to shop online for necessities such as fresh food, snacks, home decoration products, technology products, and pet food . During the Lunar New Year, consumers also began to purchase New Year's goods such as New Year decorations, cheongsams, New Year's food and beverages online. Other data shows that in the first five days of the movement restriction order , online purchases of snacks increased fivefold from the beginning of 2020 to about 500,000 items , fresh food increased 13 times from last year , pet food exceeded 330,000 items , home decoration products increased eightfold to about 900,000 items , and technology products exceeded 550,000 items . Currently, the movement restrictions in some parts of Malaysia have not been lifted and people are still continuing to shop online for the above necessities. The surge in the number of parcels has also attracted the attention of many sellers to Malaysia’s logistics. It is understood that it used to take 10 days or even longer to deliver goods in East Malaysia , but now it has been shortened to 1 to 4 days . Shopee Xpress and its logistics partners have also begun to strengthen logistics facilities so that buyers and sellers can enjoy better delivery services. Shopee Xpress also collaborates with Pos Malaysia, J&T, Ninja Van and DHL to provide orderly online shopping logistics services to the public. Shopee said it will shorten the delivery time for buyers and sellers, add 10 new Shopee Xpress express stations, and cooperate with Parcelhub and MBE to provide 300 express stations nationwide , mainly in locations with convenient transportation and concentrated sellers, to shorten the time from buyers placing an order to receiving the goods. logistics Cross-border e-commerce market Southeast Asia |
