1-800-Flowers is a well-known flower and gift card brand in North America with more than 40 years of operating history. Its offline and online sales performance are very stable. The epidemic has brought the development of its e-commerce platform to a higher level.
The platform is heading into one of its busiest times of the year: Valentine’s Day . The flower and gift retailer reported a massive 59.7% growth in its e-commerce business for the second quarter of fiscal 2021, which ended Dec. 7, 2020. That figure includes revenue from its August 2020 acquisition of PersonalizationMal . Growth in the second fiscal quarter was still a massive 34.6%.
Total revenue for the quarter increased 44.8% to $877.3 million from $605.6 million in the same period last year .
The retailer said changes in consumer shopping habits and a desire to stay connected with more friends and family during the pandemic's social isolation policies provide the platform with a wealth of opportunities for growth.
Chief Executive Chris McCann said: " We were able to achieve record results despite facing significant headwinds during the year-end holiday period, including strong e-commerce growth from our competitors and outstanding operational efficiencies . "
McCann said that based on current e-commerce growth momentum through January, 1-800-Flowers expects revenue to continue to grow, with revenue by the third quarter of 2021 up 45-50% from the same period last year.
“As we move into the second half of our fiscal year, we are building significant momentum across our business by leveraging our expanded product offerings and focused customer engagement to build relationships,” McCann said. “While we recognize the continued uncertainty in the overall environment due to the pandemic , we believe we are well positioned to deliver strong results in the current third quarter and for the full year. ”
1-800-Flowers is optimistic about the current situation and the future , as Valentine's Day (one of its peak periods ) is coming. The retailer said it plans to deliver about 22 million bouquets on Valentine's Day , including about 14 million roses , but declined to disclose the specific sales plan . It is reported that 1-800-Flowers has a variety of bouquets, will sell up to 95 different flower varieties, and provide more than 90 rose products.
In addition to selling bouquets, it has also launched some new services on the platform based on consumer demand so that consumers can better enjoy their holidays.
Support Valentine's Day scheduled delivery
Consumers can purchase bouquets and related products from any brand , such as Shari's Berries , Harry & David and Popcorn Factory, on the 1-800-Flowers platform and choose to have them delivered on the date they want . Its HCL e-commerce platform enables consumers to select the desired products from any of its brands and customize the logistics time through a unified checkout method .
Flower Order Service
1-800-Flowers' new subscription service allows consumers to select a bouquet of flowers each month . For the first delivery , consumers can choose the delivery date and add a greeting card or other additional items, while subsequent deliveries will be spaced about 30 days apart and will not include any personalized gifts.
Virtual video chat background and digital content
Consumers can download Valentine's Day-themed virtual backgrounds from 1800Flowers for use on Zoom and other video chat programs. In addition, the platform has added digital content such as downloadable Valentine 's Day-related coloring pages , how-to guides, DIY projects and virtual workshops to provide fun for consumers who are bored at home.
