A large number of Amazon sellers were overcharged, with some being overcharged more than 90,000 yuan. Some logistics carriers are adjusting their fees, causing some sellers to see their fees soar several times, directly affecting their profits.
A large number of sellers were charged high adjustment fees
Recently, many sellers have been troubled by the substantial fee adjustment by logistics carriers. The adjustment is not a small amount. After the adjustment, sellers have to pay hundreds to thousands of dollars more each month, and some even pay up to tens of thousands of dollars. Sellers have pointed out that the fee adjustment is not reasonable at all, and it is a "robbery" by logistics carriers. After the adjustment, some sellers' accounts have become negative.
Seller Ken posted a message to Amazon for help, questioning why airlines can charge such adjustment fees? He said that he was charged more than $238 in adjustment fees for one order, and that $13,000 (about RMB 93,000) had been deducted in these "adjustments", and the balance of his account became negative $10,000.
Ken believes that these adjustment fees are very problematic and have seriously affected his business. Seller Lee has the same experience and feelings.
Last month, Lee received an adjustment fee of $2,300 . Most of his adjustment fees occurred on DHL shipping to Canada. He had already paid high prices for the goods to Canada, but DHL continued to demand higher adjustment fees after shipping.
According to feedback from all parties, a large number of sellers are currently being charged high adjustment fees. The incident has affected a wide range. For some sellers, more than 90% of their products have been subject to adjustment fees, and some have even received more than 1,000 freight adjustment orders a day. Colleagues have suffered heavy losses and are complaining.
"-- I've been wondering what I did wrong, lately over 90% of my stuff has been resized. Box dimensions 8.86x5.437x1.75 so I filled it 9x6x2 and it was resized to 8x2x9 for an extra $1.98; ——Seems like a new way to steal money. I was charged $45 for shipping an envelope, the actual weight of the envelope is very light, the size is 7x5x2 inches. In addition, I used USPS Ground Advantage Shipping, and the adjustment fee was $132.12. USPS also upgraded my Ground Advantage package to Priority Mail without my consent, and many calls to USPS Customer Service have not been resolved; —The same thing happens to me every day; - We have an account with UPS, and if the dimensions or weight are wrong, they will adjust the charges; ——Even if the size is correct, it will still be adjusted; -FedEx once added $30 because our shipment was 1 pound less than estimated, which was incredible; - They took $1,000 from me, I had to stop using the shipping service, and we were hit with 4-5 times the adjustment fees."
Industry insiders pointed out that so many sellers were charged adjustment fees because the data such as size or weight filled in by the sellers did not match the actual data. Some sellers took the risk of deliberately underreporting the data of the goods in order to save shipping costs. However, some people filled in the data correctly and still fell into the trap.
Blaming each other, sellers question Amazon's inaction
Why are there so many postage adjustments on the Amazon marketplace, and why do sellers face fee adjustments even when they enter the correct dimensions and weights ?
In the view of the seller Zero, UPS has been having problems with misadjustments. It said it has tried to fix the problem more than a dozen times. Both UPS and Amazon deny their responsibility. Amazon said it needs UPS to handle it, and UPS said it is Amazon's UPS account and they need to handle it. The two companies are passing the buck to each other. As a seller, we are trapped.
If these adjustments are due to size problems, in many cases, we submit accurate measurements, and even if there are so-called "errors," they should be more or less, but the carrier's adjustments are all overcharged from the seller, and all adjustments are negative, which is statistically impossible.
It’s clear there are some nefarious practices going on here that are going unpunished, and Amazon will never lift a finger to deal with them.
"In many cases when we see these huge adjustment fees , it's usually a buyer returning an oversized package of items, and the seller has no recourse or way to challenge the charge or bill the customer. The seller doesn't see the charge until 6 weeks or more later," said one person who has dealt with similar issues.
Another interesting fact is that since the new policy came into effect, sellers have not received any notifications or reports. The way to find these fees is to check the transaction details. If the seller has hundreds of orders a day , it is very troublesome to find these fees. The person questioned why Amazon can't let sellers download a simple report showing these fees, and why these fees are hidden so well by Amazon?
While accusing Amazon of inaction, sellers also expect the platform to help solve such problems. Some people shouted to Amazon: "These are not small adjustments. The platform should stop making excuses for these adjustments and investigate the amounts of these adjustments."
Amazon responds and gives suggestions
A seller asked Amazon about adjusting fees and received the following response:
When you purchase shipping services , the carrier's fees are based on the information you provide. After the package is shipped, the carrier may charge you in the form of a carrier adjustment based on the difference between the original label information and the package information audited by the carrier.
For future shipments , carrier shipping correction charges can be avoided by:
Confirm that your company provides accurate shipping details when creating a shipment; Confirm that size and weight are taken into account when calculating shipping costs; For size and weight measurements , always remember to round them up to the nearest whole number.
In addition, an industry insider also gave pertinent suggestions on the issue of fee adjustment. The insider said that all operators such as UPS and FedEx have machines to scan packages and accurately measure each package sent. These machines are inspected and calibrated by the federal government and should be accurate. But sometimes two boxes stick together or employees make mistakes.
If all the order information sent by the seller is entered correctly, there should be no problem. However, some sellers enter incorrect data to reduce costs. When the carrier's shipping data is different from the actual one, they will review it one by one until you no longer enter incorrect information.
When a carrier quotes a price based on the information provided by the seller and discovers a data gap, a high adjustment fee will be charged. Large fee adjustments are a problem, but as a seller you should also find out why you are being charged in a timely manner and contact the carrier directly, don't expect Amazon to handle it.
As many sellers have been charged high adjustment fees, we remind everyone to check whether they have been charged in a timely manner. The most important thing is to provide accurate cargo size and weight information to avoid this adjustment fee. Amazon Meiya Seller |
