AliExpress becomes the third largest e-commerce platform in South Korea as monthly active users surge

The overseas Double 11 sales are hot, and the cross-border e-commerce platform AliExpress has broken records again. According to statistics from Wiseapp Retail Goods, a Korean application software analysis service provider, the number of AliExpress users in South Korea soared to 6.13 million in October, surpassing the old Korean shopping website GMarket to become the third largest e-commerce platform in South Korea.

It is reported that AliExpress has always been the largest cross-border e-commerce platform in the Korean market and has continued to occupy the first place in the comprehensive e-commerce download list. This time AliExpress defeated Gmarket, which is the first time that an overseas platform has appeared in the top three comprehensive e-commerce platforms in Korea.

The report also pointed out that as AliExpress's popularity soared, there were more and more related unboxing videos on YouTube, and the number of comments from women in their 20s was increasing.

The types of hot-selling products are also changing. Previously, AliExpress's main products were IT equipment such as drones, display screens, and computer accessories. Now the scope is expanding to include small appliances, cosmetics, etc. As a result, it is expected that the user base of AliExpress will further expand in the future.

Analysts said that the arrival of the overseas Double 11 shopping carnival has increased the attention of Korean users to AliExpress. AliExpress invested a lot of subsidies and publicity resources for this Double 11 , including advertising promotions on popular subway lines and group buying by Internet celebrities.

According to previous media reports, this year's Double 11 , AliExpress co-spokesperson Ma Dongseok launched a "Lucky Blind Box" with a total value of 1.1 billion won in the Korean market to stimulate young consumers to continue placing orders.

AliExpress is also constantly optimizing its service experience. Korean consumers can enjoy free delivery when purchasing products from AliExpress's Double 11 event or Choice channel. AliExpress has also cooperated with Korea's leading payment wallets Kakao Pay, Naver Pay, Toss Pay, and the five major banks to add additional discounts while optimizing payment functions .

In March this year , AliExpress launched its Choice service in South Korea and hired the famous Korean actor Ma Dong-seok as its spokesperson. After the launch of Choice, AliExpress entered a rapid growth track. After leading the download volume in the Korean market, the average usage time per person also exceeded that of Coupang, a local Korean e-commerce giant.
