Robotic Tech Vest, or RTV for short, was launched in early 2019. Amazon has begun rolling out the device to more than 25 of its locations, which can alert robots to the location of workers within the facility in order to prevent workplace accidents.

From the outside, the robotics vest actually looks more like a pair of suspenders tied to an electronic device belt. It is mainly designed to protect workers when they need to enter a space to repair a robotic system or retrieve a dropped item. The vest has built-in sensors that allow Amazon's robots to detect obstacles (in this case, humans) and bypass them.

Development History

-In November 2013, an informal employee was crushed to death by a forklift at an Amazon warehouse in Reno, Nevada, USA.

-In December 2013, Amazon revealed that a worker had died in an accident at Amazon's third-party sorting center in New York City.

-Around 2013, National COSH found seven workers had died in Amazon warehouses.

-In December 2017, two dozen Amazon warehouse employees in New Jersey were hospitalized after a robot punctured a can of bear repellent, with one employee in critical condition.

-In April 2018, the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health released a report claiming that Amazon is one of the most dangerous places to work in the country.
