Amazon announced a collective pay raise for all warehouse employees in the United States!

The most exciting news Amazon warehouse worker Paul Brundle heard recently was Amazon's decision to increase the minimum hourly wage for warehouse workers nationwide : It's better than nothing .

Amazon said that starting in October, the average starting salary for front-line employees in the United States will increase from $18 per hour to more than $19.

In fact, according to people familiar with the matter , the minimum hourly wage for workers has increased by about 50 cents to $1 . At Brundle 's warehouse, the starting wage is $16 to $17 per hour.

Brundle, a logistics assistant at an Amazon warehouse in Swedesboro, New Jersey, said the salary increase is a drop in the bucket given the current soaring prices, and the inflation rate far exceeds our salary increase .

With inflation rising 8.3% this year , Blundell said most of his colleagues have only received raises of 40 to 60 cents. On a $17 an hour wage, a 50-cent hourly increase would equate to a 3% increase in take-home pay , well below this year's inflation rate.

Amazon is also facing a growing labor movement and increasingly unhappy warehouse employees . (Brendel is affiliated with Amazon Workers United, a labor group of Amazon workers that is not a formal union.)

This week, Amazon suspended 50 employees from its only formally organized union on Staten Island after they refused to continue working following the fire .

In fact, tensions between Amazon and its front-line employees have been escalating in recent years , especially during the COVID-19 pandemic , when employees have called for higher wages, more paid leave, and asked the company to adjust production targets based on productivity .

Workers at several Amazon facilities have reportedly taken steps to unite . Earlier this year, workers at Amazon’s Staten Island, New York, warehouse successfully voted to form the company’s first U.S. union. Next month , Amazon faces another union election at a warehouse near Albany, New York .

Amazon said it will spend about $1 billion more on wage increases next year as it looks to attract and retain more workers in a tight labor market as it enters its "peak season," a busy shopping period associated with the holiday season.

In addition to the pay increase, Amazon said it would expand its pay advance program for employees , allowing them to choose to receive up to 70% of their monthly salary at any time , rather than just on a set payday .

I believe that after a series of operations, Amazon should be able to temporarily calm the dissatisfaction of its employees. This is naturally good news for sellers. I hope that no emergencies will occur in the upcoming shopping season.
