69% of Americans prefer "second-hand goods", and three types of goods are very popular

Recently, FloorFound announced the results of its first Earth Day consumer survey, which focused on three aspects: sustainability, resale and circular commerce , to see consumers' shopping preferences in these three areas.

The survey found that 69% of Americans have started buying resale and second-hand products due to rising prices.

Among resale merchandise categories, large items are gaining momentum, with apparel and furniture being the most popular resale areas, and appliances and fitness equipment being among the fastest growing areas for resale. Oversized and bulky items are in the spotlight in the coming year.

In the past year, 71% of respondents have purchased second-hand or resale items, and this number continues to rise. 76% of Americans plan to buy second-hand or resale items in the next year, especially those under 30 years old who have shown great interest in this.

Value and sustainability are two of the main reasons why consumers are embracing the e-commerce trend .

A survey of more than 600 U.S. consumers found that their reasons for buying resale include: consumers believe that resale is cost-effective and environmentally friendly, and resale goods are not only price-competitive, but also maintain the sustainability of the earth.

In addition, the uniqueness, quality and delivery speed of resale products are also reasons that consumers pay attention to.

Among resale items, these are the most popular.

The top three resale items Americans purchased last year were: clothing, furniture and shoes.

Looking ahead, the top 3 resale items on America’s shopping list are: clothing, furniture, home decor, and tools.

Facebook Marketplace becomes the top destination for buying resale items. Marketplace is a section on Facebook where people can discover, buy and sell items. Facebook Marketplace has quickly gained widespread adoption as the leading resale destination.

When it comes to buying big-ticket items like furniture, not all resale channels are created equal in consumers’ minds. Americans prefer branded retailers to online retailers for resale services.

New resale models are popular, but most Americans are still unaware of these types of circular commerce initiatives, which presents retailers with a unique opportunity to better serve their customers and build brand value through sustainability.

If e-commerce platforms want to seize market share and increase revenue in this field, as well as do their part to protect the planet, they must take action in conjunction with brands to implement and promote e-commerce programs and bring consumers trusted resale products.
