After the New Year, sales of many Amazon sellers fell into a slump. Recently, as the weather has warmed up, sales in some categories have begun to pick up, and some sellers have even reached a state close to the peak season.
This recovery in orders is consistent with the consumption habits of Americans. This year, more than 80% of Americans are preparing to celebrate Easter, and some Easter-related products are selling well, but not all products are favored by consumers, and many related products have also joined the queue for clearing inventory.
Some sellers' orders have picked up, and Easter-related products are hot-selling
In April, some sellers reported that orders began to recover to varying degrees.
One seller happily introduced: " Easter has revived my sales, reaching a sales level similar to the previous peak season . " Another seller said: " Sales have been sluggish for a quarter, but they have finally increased in the past few days, up more than 20% year-on-year . "
However, not all sellers will encounter this increase in order volume, as it depends on the categories being sold.
An industry insider said: " Most of the products that have seen a recent sales recovery are Easter-related products, while other regular non-Easter products are still not doing well, and orders for many sellers are still declining . " Some sellers also introduced their actual situation. From the category point of view, the two categories they are currently working on are recovering, while the other two are declining.
It is understood that Easter is the first Sunday after the full moon on the spring equinox every year. According to the calculation of the sellers in the industry, this year's Easter is April 17. Based on the feedback from sellers, it is not difficult to find that Easter products have entered a hot selling period since March, and since entering April, the trend of warming up of such products has become more obvious.
The symbols of Easter are Easter eggs and Easter bunnies. During the festival, Americans gather together to play games. They roll eggs on the ground or on a slope. The one who finally breaks wins. Before the festival, consumers like to buy Easter eggs, bunny-related products, home gardening, etc.
However, even for the same Easter products, the sellers’ specific sales performance varies from product to product. Some sellers’ products performed well as early as March, but were out of stock in April.
However, some sellers' Easter products were unsalable and they were forced to start clearing out their inventory. Many Easter-related products that had no sales were sold at low prices as early as March.
A seller lamented: "How am I going to clear out the Easter goods? It's such a headache!" The seller has already offered discounts of more than 50%; and another seller also said helplessly that Easter products are not selling even at 4.99.
As the holiday approaches, sellers who are eager to clear their inventory are even more worried. One seller said that there are only 9 days left before Easter, but he still has 450+ holiday products in stock. In response to the inventory pressure, a colleague suggested that you can try to run ads to clear inventory and try to recover some costs; taking the seller's situation on Halloween last year as an example, through advertising, he cleared hundreds of stocks in the last week.
The sales of similar Easter-related products are completely different, and an important factor that determines the results is the seller's product selection thinking.
A senior seller said that holiday products such as Easter and Christmas are short-term quick-money products. Such products must be highly consistent with the consumption needs of local people and be selected based on the situation in previous years and current trends. Long-term products that are not holiday products will test the seller's continuous research and development capabilities.
Easter sales in the UK and US are expected to be good, with low-priced products being favored
According to a survey by the National Retail Federation ( NRF), Americans plan to spend an average of $169.79 on Easter-related items this year. 80% of Americans will celebrate the holiday, and their total spending will reach $20.8 billion, but slightly lower than the $21.6 billion expected last year.
More than half of consumers plan to visit family and friends in person, up from 43% last year. 97% of consumers said they will shop during Easter, with the most purchased items being: food (76%), candy (68%), gifts (34%), toys/games (27%), decorations (27%), alcoholic beverages (25%), clothing (16%) and party supplies (14%).
For those planning to celebrate Easter, food will be the largest spending category, with an average outlay of $53.61, followed by gifts and clothing, with outlays of $28.04 and $27.93, respectively.
In terms of shopping methods, 88% of consumers said they would shop in-store during Easter, and 32% said they would shop online at least once. Among them, Amazon is the preferred online retailer for Easter shopping, with 22% of consumers planning to shop on Amazon.com, and 16% and 12% of consumers planning to shop at Walmart and Target, respectively.
However, due to inflation, people have become more sensitive to prices. 48% of consumers said they would search for promotions and coupons, 41% would reduce the number of items they buy, 34% would turn to low-priced brands, and would reduce spending by buying in advance, comparing prices, and other methods.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic, this year may be the first year that Easter trade returns to a relatively normal shopping pattern. As offline stores are closed, people's shopping needs have shifted online, bringing huge dividends to a number of e-commerce platforms. Sellers selling Easter products are expected to usher in a wave of increased orders. Amazon Sellers Amazon Easter Egg |
