A container ship collided with a ferry! Containers are suspected to be lost

According to foreign media reports, on March 12, a container ship LAUST MAERSK collided with the ferry NAPOLES in the waters of the Alboran Sea approximately 53 nautical miles southeast of Malaga, Spain.

The container ship LAUST MAERSK, IMO 9190743, dwt 63000, capacity 4258 TEU, built in 2001, 266 meters long, 37 meters wide, flying the Hong Kong flag, was on its way from Panama via Tangier and Algeciras to Italy when it collided with the NAPOLES ferry which was on its way from Malaga to Melilla, Morocco, a Spanish territory .

According to industry sources, after the accident, the container ship LAUST MAERSK had to turn around and return to the Port of Algeciras for inspection and repairs, so the voyage of the container ship was interrupted and the container ship was docked at the North Pier. At 1200 UTC, it was sailing eastward at a low speed, probably waiting for the preliminary investigation results.

Relevant sources said that the minor collision did not prevent the NAPOLES ship from continuing to sail, and only the part above the waterline was damaged, affecting the port bow.

But according to foreign media reports, it appears that one of the containers of the Laust Maersk container ship became hung on the bridge structure of the NAPOLES passenger ship, which may have caused the loss of the container .

According to the Spanish shipping company, no passengers on either ship were injured and no injuries were reported. It is understood that the container ship involved in the accident is a ship deployed by Maersk on the Latin American to European route.

The current navigation status of the ship is restricted. It is understood that it will sail to Piraeus in Greece, Izmit Port in Turkey, Ambali Port in Istanbul and other places. The goods at the relevant destinations will face the risk of delay.

Relevant personnel are reminded that sellers and freight forwarders who have relevant shipping news recently should pay attention to the accident investigation and logistics and transportation progress in a timely manner. Cross-border shipping has certain risks, and container ships often encounter emergencies. We hope that sellers and freight forwarders will keep abreast of the information and make good shipping arrangements.
