Amazon's home appliance sellers have the highest income, and the grocery category is the most competitive!

Amazon brand acquirer Thrasio has analysed data from more than 18,000 sellers from SmartScout to reveal the makeup of the UK’s booming e-commerce industry. The data analysis reveals which categories are generating the most revenue for sellers, as well as which categories are the most competitive.

The findings show that traditional categories such as books, CDs and vinyl records remain big business for Amazon sellers, while sellers in the large home appliances category earn the highest revenue.

Large appliances rank high in average seller revenue

According to the data, sellers in the large electrical appliances category on Amazon have the highest average monthly income of approximately £364,000, calculated by dividing the total sales of the category by the number of sellers .

Surprisingly, traditional categories such as books, CDs and vinyl records are still one of the most profitable categories for sellers. It is reported that the average monthly income of sellers in the book, CD and vinyl categories is 227,000 pounds and 234,000 pounds. These data show that it is not necessary to constantly look for new product lines or high-value goods to obtain a sustainable and profitable source of income. It is also a very good choice to operate some traditional categories well.

The data also shows that the average monthly income of sellers in high-value categories such as cars, computers and accessories, and watches is 222,000 pounds, 111,000 pounds, and 45,000 pounds respectively ; the average monthly income of sellers in categories such as clothing, sports and outdoor products, and pet supplies is 250,000 pounds, 239,000 pounds, and 234,000 pounds respectively.

Grocery sellers face the toughest competition on e-commerce platforms

As more people start selling online as a side job or main business, competition for sellers on e-commerce platforms is becoming increasingly fierce, but Thrasio's data shows that despite the fierce competition, there is still sustainable income in the entire e-commerce market.

Among the 27 categories analyzed by Thrasio , 5 product categories have more than 1,400 active GB-based sellers. Among them, the competition among sellers in the grocery category is the most intense, with about 2,275 active sellers in this category, followed by beauty and home and kitchen categories, with about 2,103 and 1,724 active sellers.

Meanwhile, in 17 of the 27 Amazon categories Thrasio analysed, average seller revenue exceeded £100,000 per month.
