Multiple survey data indicate that the United States may usher in a baby boom in 2022 .
After years of falling U.S. birth rates , there are signs that the trend may be turning: a Bank of America survey at the end of 2021 showed a surge in the number of people planning to have babies in the coming year .
Bank of America Global Research surveyed about 1,000 people between December 8 and December 14, 2021 , about their spending plans for 2022 , and baby products seemed to be the focus for many Americans . The survey found that 13.2% of respondents are trying or hope to have a baby in the next 12 months , a higher proportion than in 2020 .
The findings add to evidence of an impending baby boom among millennials, the group between 25 and 40. Data from Bank of America in November showed that sales of pregnancy tests grew 13% between June 2020 and October 2021 , compared with a 2% increase between 2016 and 2019. The U.S. birth rate increased 3.3% in June 2021 , the highest rate since August 2017 , according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention .
All the news about increased baby -related spending is good news for retailers , Bank of America predicts .
The U.S. baby products market is estimated to be worth $1.7 billion, according to market research firm Global Industry Analysts, and millennials make up the largest proportion of the U.S. population and have the greatest purchasing power in the U.S. economy.
According to media reports , Target, Walmart, Amazon, Kroger and Dollar General is most likely to profit from the baby boom , as these stores and platforms are increasingly attractive to young people . Products including diapers, baby food, milk powder, strollers , toys , etc. will usher in hot sales .
But some experts warn against getting too excited about the prospect of rising birth rates just yet. D. Sciubba told the media in December last year that the increase in sales of pregnancy test products and couples ' desire to have children was actually just the result of people 's fertility needs being delayed during the epidemic .
If it is true that the epidemic suppressed the demand for fertility and it rebounded this year, then the increase in fertility rate is only a short-term phenomenon and is unlikely to continue for a long time. baby USA Birth rate |
