21 million Black Friday parcels in the UK may have been damaged in transit

According to DS Smith , 41% of UK consumers will receive up to six defective or damaged deliveries after the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales , meaning approximately 21 million problematic parcels with a total cost of at least £739 million.

According to a OnePoll survey of 2,000 Brits, 69% of consumers said they had received defective or damaged items after online shopping, usually due to improper packaging . The most common items were household items, clothing , electrical appliances and entertainment items such as DVDs .

DS Smith calls this phenomenon " Black Friday frustration" because nearly half of consumers say the most frustrating thing about receiving a package is that the item arrives damaged .

The DS Smith survey also showed that consumer experience is related to product packaging : 24% of consumers are frustrated by unnecessary packaging of products , while 20% of consumers are dissatisfied when the packaging is larger than what is actually needed .

When it comes to returns, the DS Smith report shows that consumers do not think it is worth the money to return items costing less than £22 . This leads to waste piling up in people's houses and a waste of resources .

At the same time , the study also found that 41 % of consumers said that if they received damaged goods, they would not choose to shop at the corresponding brand store again .

In this regard, DS Smith CEO Stefano Rossi commented that the results of this study are eye-opening . Consumers are tired of receiving damaged parcels and goods . The most effective solution to ensure the safe delivery of goods is to use the correct packaging.

Rossi also mentioned that proper packaging can ensure the safety of goods , provide consumers with a more comfortable unpacking experience, and reduce the probability of returns and exchanges due to packaging problems. At the same time, this move has a relatively small negative impact on the environment , can reduce carbon emissions, and benefit our planet.

The editor would also like to remind sellers that they must choose appropriate and safe packaging when packing and shipping goods to avoid damage to the goods and cause unnecessary losses.
