According to a new study by Adjust and Sensor Tower , based on the trends in 2020, the proportion of shopping through mobile devices is expected to hit a record high during this shopping season.
Adobe has previously predicted that by the end of this year, 54% of total e-commerce sales will come from shopping apps. So far, this prediction is accurate.
So far in 2021, the number of e-commerce app installations worldwide has increased by 10% compared to 2020, while usage time has increased by 12%.
The time consumers spend using shopping apps increased from 10.7 minutes in 2019 to 10.42 minutes in 2020, and now to 10.56 minutes in 2021. The continuous increase in usage time also indicates that consumers are increasingly interested in and dependent on shopping apps.
According to the trend forecast for 2020, consumption using shopping apps in October, November and December 2021 will be better than the previous nine months.
Currently, Shopee is the most used and highest-grossing shopping app. However, as Christmas approaches and major e-commerce platforms begin to expand their markets, this situation may change.
The report also pointed out that the opt-in rate for app tracking transparency (ATT) in e-commerce is about 17%, which is much higher than the industry's initial forecast. Adjust said that as users become more aware of the value of related advertising, the proportion of consent to app tracking will also increase.
Based on data collection from mobile terminals, sellers can understand consumers' needs and purchasing habits from different aspects so as to flexibly adjust their sales strategies.
Adjust co-founder and CEO Paul H. Müller also said that the survey results show that an important new trend has emerged in the e-commerce market, and companies can keep customers engaged by wisely using existing mobile technologies.
Mobile apps can retain old users and continue to gain more new users, proving that the services provided by mobile apps are convenient for users and optimize the user experience. However, how to maintain the loyalty of mobile customers is also something that businesses should think about during holiday shopping and the New Year.
