Three in ten British people only choose to shop online during Christmas

A recent foreign media survey shows that nearly one-third of British people plan to shop only online this Christmas, more than four times the proportion of last year, when only 7% did so. The data shows that the popularity of e-commerce has not slowed down yet, and sellers can seize the great sales season of Christmas.

In recent years, consumers' shift to online retail has accelerated, and with the experience of home delivery during the epidemic, the British have become accustomed to e-commerce shopping. Coupled with the recent shortages of goods caused by the supply chain, many offline store shelves are empty. Consumers have turned their attention to online shopping, and it is expected that online shopping demand will surge this Christmas.

Moreover, 75 % of consumers said that they may increase their spending on online Christmas gift purchases this year, and 40% said they would buy Christmas supplies early. Only 23% of consumers said they would reduce Christmas spending.

The survey also found that 60% of respondents plan to adopt a mixed approach to gift shopping this holiday season , shopping partly online and partly in-store. This proportion is mainly among young people aged 18-24, with about 68% of young people preferring mixed shopping, while this proportion accounts for 55% of people over 75 years old.

As the most lively festival in the local area, people prefer to go to the streets to feel the lively atmosphere of the Christmas season, which creates a mixed shopping method. But for consumers who only shop online, it is more due to the epidemic. Recent news shows that Europe has ushered in the fourth wave of the local epidemic and has once again become the epicenter of the epidemic. All countries are facing tremendous pressure.

And according to data from local e-commerce platform OnBuy, at the end of September this year, Christmas-related searches such as "Christmas tree", "wreath", "small ornaments" and so on were more than the entire October last year. With the peak of the season approaching, many people are worried about delays in goods, and unlike last year when toilet paper shortages became daily news at the beginning of the epidemic, Christmas gifts and related items are the focus this year.

Not only the UK, but Europe is currently in a serious period of the epidemic. Coupled with the shortage of goods caused by the supply chain, the e-commerce market during Christmas may usher in a new period of outbreak, and sellers must also prepare for the peak season in advance.
