Stunned! A seller only requires "good people" to recruit Amazon operators

No matter when, the five words "Amazon operations" will attract attention in the industry. Skyrocketing salaries, high pressure, talent shortage, leaving and changing careers... each one is a topic that people care about and hotly discuss.

Recently, a new round of discussions has started in the industry due to an Amazon operations recruitment information posted by a seller.

A seller only requires "good people" to recruit Amazon operators

As we all know, no matter what position you are in, rich experience and impressive academic qualifications are the support for people to get higher salaries, and the same is true for Amazon operations. If you are proficient in one or more languages such as English, French, German, etc., your salary will rise even higher. Of course, job seekers who have these conditions at the same time will become more popular.

But what was unexpected was that these conditions were broken by one company.

"Master's degree or above, more than five years of work experience, more than two years of management experience in large multinational companies, worked in at least three companies, proficient in English and at least one other foreign language." Seeing this job requirement, many people would think it is just an ordinary Amazon operations job recruitment information.

But if there were six more words after these requirements : "The above is pure nonsense", it would be surprising.

Moreover, the recruitment information emphasizes that if the applicant meets any of the above conditions, he/she will not be hired. At the same time, it emphasizes that the company does not want the so-called elite, so the applicant only needs to meet one condition: be a good person. It points out that a good person does not mean helping an old lady cross the road for no reason, but does not have a series of evil qualities, including but not limited to: high expectations but low skills, ambitious, gossiping, lazy, disrespectful to elders, and obsessed with money.

To sum it up simply, interviewees with "high education", "rich work experience" and "proficiency in English" will be rejected by this seller, while "good person" will become a popular green card, or will be the first and only condition for being hired.

How this seller determines whether the job applicants for interviews possess the qualities of a "good person" that it requires is another matter. However, this "special" job requirement is enough to attract more attention to it. Whether it will still be implemented in accordance with these job requirements is another matter.

After working on Amazon for a long time, I feel like I’ve hit the ceiling

If encountering the above-mentioned companies when looking for a job makes you doubt your life, then the problem you face after working in Amazon operations for a while will make you feel anxious.

On an industry forum, a topic about "Amazon operations" and "ceilings" sparked widespread discussion. The operator who posted the post said that he had worked his way up from an Amazon operations assistant to his current position as operations supervisor, and had learned a lot during that time, but now he was anxious and felt that there were not many surprises in his work. He wanted to take a step forward but couldn't find a direction.

There are many people like this operator who are already experienced in their work but have reached an awkward stage where they are neither good nor bad.

“——I have been working for a few months and I feel like I have figured out the job. Now I am just repeating the work from the previous day every day;

——It is also a small company operation, and I feel a little depressed at the moment;

——Every day’s work is repetition! Repetition! Repetition! But I don’t know how to change the status quo or make myself stronger;

——I have been working in a small company for 4 years and now feel that there is no room for advancement and no resources. ”

Some people who have experienced this said that in this situation, one can only adjust by oneself, or switch to another industry, or quit the job to start a business.

However, some people also said that any profession will encounter the problem of career ceiling, and as an Amazon operator, there are still many areas for improvement in this industry. If you still want to continue doing it, you can continue to learn and reach the next ceiling when the time is right.

There is a shortage of one million talents in cross-border e-commerce , and talent training is imminent

While Amazon's operations are confused about its own breakthroughs, cross-border e-commerce talents are also facing the dilemma of a lack of young talents.

In recent years, with the continuous development of the Internet, the global Internet penetration rate has continued to rise. According to Hootsuite data, as of January this year, the number of Internet users worldwide reached 4.66 billion, and the global Internet penetration rate has reached nearly 60%. On the other hand, the impact of the epidemic has accelerated the formation of users' online consumption habits. At present, online shopping has become the main shopping channel for many consumers.

Against this backdrop, China's foreign trade continues to improve. According to China's customs statistics, in the first half of this year, China's cross-border e-commerce imports and exports totaled 886.7 billion yuan, up 28.6% year-on-year. Among them, exports totaled 603.6 billion yuan, up 44.1%; imports totaled 283.1 billion yuan, up 4.6%. It is not difficult to see from these data that the growth rate of exports is significantly higher than the overall growth rate of foreign trade, and far exceeds the growth rate of imports.

However, the many crises hidden under the rapid growth have also attracted attention. Behind the rapid development of the cross-border e-commerce industry, there is a shortage of talent. According to a survey by the National Service Outsourcing Human Resources Research Institute of Tsinghua University, more than 70% of domestic cross-border e-commerce companies believe that the biggest bottleneck restricting their development is the lack of professional talent.

According to industry estimates, China has millions of cross-border e-commerce companies, and the talent gap is estimated to be millions. Alibaba International Station even predicts that China's cross-border e-commerce professional talent gap exceeds 6 million . In addition to the southeast coastal areas, small and medium-sized enterprises in the central and western regions are particularly short of talent.

A report released by Zhaopin.com shows that in the first quarter of 2021, the number of talent recruitment positions in the foreign trade import and export industry increased by 11.2% year-on-year. However, the number of resumes received by the foreign trade import and export industry during the same period decreased by 35.6% year-on-year, and the supply of talent was relatively lagging behind.

One of the main reasons for the shortage of cross-border e-commerce talents is the high threshold of the industry. Practitioners not only need to have a corresponding level of foreign language proficiency, but also need to understand overseas laws and regulations, logistics systems, and have certain marketing capabilities.

Against this background, all parties have paid more attention to the education of cross-border e-commerce.

On the one hand, students are becoming more enthusiastic about learning cross-border e-commerce. According to a CCTV report in June this year, the number of students enrolled in a certain cross-border e-commerce college increased by 200% year-on-year this year.

On the other hand, many training institutions have also seen this gap and vigorously developed cross-border e-commerce courses. However, Wang Xin, executive president of the Shenzhen Cross-border E-commerce Association, said that many talent training institutions in Shenzhen are not standardized and cannot meet the needs of the current cross-border e-commerce market.

Wang Xin also said that it would be best if some public welfare organizations could emerge, such as contacting schools such as Shenzhen University to build a system to supply talents to the industry.

At present, colleges and universities are also continuing to increase cross-border e-commerce education. Deng Shunguo, director of the Teaching Steering Committee of E-commerce Majors in Guangdong Undergraduate Colleges and Universities, said that in 2019, Guangdong established a cross-border e-commerce major for the first time, and this year it will approve another four colleges and universities to establish cross-border e-commerce majors, which will output about 1,000 graduates each year. However, he emphasized that compared with the hundreds of thousands of cross-border e-commerce companies in Guangdong, there are still more people than porridge.

In addition to Guangdong, other provinces and cities are also facing this dilemma. It seems that there is still a long way to go to fill the talent gap in cross-border e-commerce.
