As an important part of consumers' shopping experience, logistics services have always been the focus of major suppliers. The same is true for e-commerce giant Amazon, which has been continuously improving its logistics service level around the world. A new study shows that Amazon Logistics has become the largest logistics company in the UK except for the Royal Mail.
Recently, Pitney Bowes released a new parcel shipping index, which contains parcel shipping data from 13 major markets around the world in 2020. The findings show that Amazon Logistics has captured a large market share in the UK express delivery industry.
In the UK express delivery industry, Royal Mail holds an unshakable market share of 34%; closely following it is Amazon, whose logistics currently has a market share of 15% in the UK express delivery industry; followed by Hermes, which holds a market share of about 12%.
In 2020, a total of 5 billion express parcels were delivered in the UK , a 33% increase from 3.8 billion in 2019. On average, 160 express parcels are delivered every second , or about 14 million per day. The growth rate of parcels in 2020 more than doubled from 2019 , with the figure increasing from 7% in 2019 to 33% year-on - year .
Among the 13 countries and regions surveyed by Pitney Bowes , the UK's express delivery operators had the highest revenue growth, up 37 % to $22.2 billion . An important reason for this growth is that the profit per package transported has increased for the first time since 2016. Therefore, despite the impact of epidemic prevention and control measures, these express delivery operators still achieved higher profits.
In terms of market share, the top five express carriers in the UK account for 76% of the UK's parcel transport volume . It is expected that the number of parcels in the UK will rise to 5.4-6 billion in 2021 , an increase of 10-14% year-on-year . By 2026, the number of parcels in the UK will reach 7.5-8.5 billion .
It is worth mentioning that China remains the world's largest express parcel market, with the number of parcels reaching approximately 83.4 billion in 2020. According to Pitney Bowes' forecast, China is expected to become the first country to reach 100 billion parcels in 2021 . Platform Information Amazon Logistics and transportation |
