According to an analysis of sales on this year’s Black Friday, people are keen to shop in a more sustainable way. On eBay, searches for certified refurbished products increased by 1,800% compared to the previous year’s Black Friday! Sales of refurbished items are more popular than ever.
Among them, refurbished mobile phones and mattresses are the most popular among consumers. Compared with Black Friday in 2020, the search volume for refurbished mattresses increased by 12%, and the search volume for refurbished mobile phones increased by 100%; refurbished products accounted for 40% of sales in the technology and media categories.
The increase in sales of refurbished goods not only shows that people are more aware of the concept of sustainable shopping, but also indicates that consumers' trust in the quality of such products is gradually increasing. The hot sales of refurbished products on eBay during this Black Friday also show that their previous certified refurbished program has resonated with consumers.
eBay UK general manager Carolyn Miller said: “ Businesses selling refurbished and upcycled items are also benefiting, proving that more and more consumers are shopping on eBay to shop more sustainably. Based on the growth trends we’re seeing, we expect refurbished products to dominate next year’s Black Friday as the best-selling items. ”
In addition to its predictions for the refurbished industry, eBay also summarized other sales on this year's Black Friday.
During Black Friday, 91% of items sold on eBay were from small business sellers. Small business sellers saw a 7% increase in sales during Black Friday compared to the previous week .
Compared with last year's Black Friday, consumers spent 8% more on some sale items this year , indicating that consumers are still keen on low-priced goods. And between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., consumers spent the most money on the website.
In addition, home and garden products are still popular among consumers and are the largest vertical category during Black Friday, accounting for 28.5% of sales . Small business sellers still perform well in this category, accounting for more than 24% of sales.
eBay UK General Manager said that the vast majority of goods sold on eBay this year's Black Friday were from small business sellers. The sales performance achieved during Black Friday was a "boost" for more than 300,000 small and medium-sized businesses on eBay on Christmas Eve.
