In a meeting, Annuar Musa pointed out that Malaysia will soon promote the digitalization of Malaysia 's network connectivity through the launch of the National Digital Infrastructure Plan ( Jendela) and other measures , so it is currently attaching great importance to the digital economy. At the same time, Annuar Musa emphasized that this is also one of the preparations for Malaysia's transition to 5G technology .
In addition, Annuar Musa proposed that the gradual deployment of 5G network technology will transform Malaysia into an innovation hub and attract new investments worth RM70 billion (US$17 billion) from international and local investors in the digital sector .
On September 26, at the China -ASEAN Information Port Dialogue, Annuar Musa said that a series of policies launched by Malaysia for the coordinated development of network technology and economy will help create new business opportunities and high-value jobs in Malaysia, and 100,000 new jobs are expected between 2021 and 2025.
During the talks held in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, China , Annuar Musa said that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has expanded the coverage of digitalization, and network technology has shifted from healthcare services to online purchases and payments. At present, "the digital economy has the potential to become a key driver for ASEAN to develop new industries and grow the economy in traditional areas . "
Annuar Musa said that ASEAN has the fastest growing Internet market in the world. According to a survey report by the World Economic Forum, the region's Internet economy reached US$100 billion in 2019 , three times the amount in the past four years. By 2025, the region's Internet economy is expected to grow to US$300 billion.
But at the same time, the rise of the digital economy will also lead to cybersecurity threats. Annuar Musa said that the Malaysian Cybersecurity Strategy 2020-2024 and the Cybersecurity Empowerment Program are part of the efforts to address cybersecurity threats. Annuar Musa pointed out that at the ASEAN level, Malaysia is working with Singapore to develop the ASEAN Action Plan on the Implementation of Responsible State Behavior Norms in Cyberspace through the National Cybersecurity Agency .
