Beauty product sales soar on Shopee and Tokopedia, Indonesian cosmetics become the next hot spot

According to foreign media reports, Shopee and Tokopedia revealed a surge in sales of beauty products during the epidemic in Indonesia.

 

“Sales of beauty products have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic and the potential for local beauty sales cannot be ignored now,” said Putri Lukman , head of FMCG and electronics at Shopee .

 

At present, there are three main reasons for the surge in beauty products in Indonesia during the epidemic:

 

1. Increase in local beauty product brands and sellers

Shopee noted that several local beauty brands have emerged in Indonesia. Even with the impact of the Covid-19 virus, transaction volumes remain quite high. Irene Ursula, founder of SomeThinc, said: "Consumers' confidence levels in local products have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic," which has boosted sales of beauty products in Indonesia.

 

2. Even if social activities outside are restricted, people still need body care products

Dr. Claudia Christin, a dermatologist , said that even if you exercise at home , skin problems will still occur. In addition, people at home often use air conditioning for a long time , which will cause subtle changes to the skin .

 

3. Some people buy beauty products to relieve stress in life

 

In addition to Shopee, Tokopedia’s vice president of fast-moving consumer goods development , Jessica Stephanie Jap, said: “Tokopedia’s beauty product sales nearly doubled at the end of last year, and the best-selling products at the moment are face cleansers, facial care sets, serums, masks and creams.”

 

Tokopedia said that there are two trends in Indonesia's beauty product trade during the epidemic:

 

1. The demand for local beauty products is growing

Judging from the sales data at the end of 2020, Tokopedia has become the best-selling supplier of beauty and skin care products, which is enough to show Indonesia’s support for local beauty products.

Ririe Prameswari said: “More and more local skincare brands are launching products of higher quality that are on par with foreign brands.”

 

2. Color cosmetics become the main choice of people

Ririe predicts that the emergence of facial makeup will emphasize makeup techniques for blending skin tones, people will increase their demand for eye shadow and lipstick colors , and choosing bold colors such as orange and red in eye makeup will become a makeup trend this year .

 

As China -ASEAN trade bilateral cooperation continues to strengthen, cross-border e-commerce is in a continuous development stage. Coupled with the increasing foreign demand, the sales volume of Indonesian beauty and cosmetics products has surged, which is undoubtedly an excellent opportunity for Chinese sellers.
