Amazon's recent sales trend data shows that consumers are preparing for personal and social activities after the epidemic.
According to Amazon's analysis, the top needs of its consumers are summer entertainment, weddings, and social events. Amazon's wedding registry has more than doubled its gift-giving volume this year compared to 2020. According to David's bridal, the suppressed demand for weddings during the epidemic will recover in 2021 and 2022.
In addition, sales of event and party supplies more than doubled year-over-year in April 2021, with tableware and party decorations among the best-selling product categories. Meanwhile, sales of outdoor furniture, including casual and deep seating as well as outdoor dining tables and bars, nearly doubled year-over-year in the first quarter of 2021. Amazon's search rankings also prove this.
Amazon's data also shows that consumers are buying new clothes to prepare for long-awaited social events. Sales of skirts, dresses, formal shirts, suits and tuxedos more than tripled year-on-year in March and April 2021.
In addition to apparel, sales of personal care products are also growing, with sales of toothpaste, whiteners and mouthwash increasing 66% in April 2021 compared to January 2020. In April, curling irons increased 30% year-on-year, and skin care sales increased more than 38% year-on-year.
As more countries reopen, people are also buying travel products. In March and April 2021, luggage sales increased by more than 460% year-on-year, and swimwear sales more than doubled in March and April 2021 compared to the same period last year. Sunscreen sales increased by 70% year-on-year in April. In April 2021, car seat sales increased by 70% year-on-year, and stroller sales increased by 50% year-on-year.
Outdoor adventures have also become a choice for people to relax outside, with sales of outdoor living and camping products increasing by more than 130% year-on-year in April 2021. Sportswear sales increased by more than 40% year-on-year in March and April 2021.
Previously, Amazon also announced some sales trends for 2020: in April 2020, laptop sales doubled year-on-year; home office desk sales more than doubled in the second quarter of 2020; gardening product sales increased 50% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2020; sales of cookware, cooking tools, baking trays, and kitchen storage products more than doubled in the second quarter of 2020 year-on-year.
This shows that consumers are spending more time at home during the epidemic, which will bring uncertainty to the sales of these products as the epidemic eases. |
