European e-commerce will develop rapidly in 2021, and the number of e-commerce users will exceed 500 million!

According to foreign media reports, European e-commerce will reach an important milestone in 2021. The number of e-commerce users may exceed 500 million , and the e-commerce penetration rate is expected to reach nearly 60%.

E-commerce in Europe is becoming increasingly popular across the continent and the rest of the world. According to data provided by TradingPlatforms, there were 480.9 million digital commerce users in Europe last year , a figure that is expected to grow to 506.9 million by the end of this year. At the same time, the penetration rate is expected to reach 59.7%. This rate broke the 50% mark three years ago and is now expected to reach 67.1% by 2025.

According to TradingPlatforms, the total transaction value of all digital commerce activities in Europe contracted by 12.18% last year, with a total transaction value of approximately 573 billion euros. This year, the online retail industry is expected to rebound, with a year-on-year growth of 22.15% to nearly 700 billion euros, higher than the total transaction value in 2019.

Technological advances over the past few decades have had a much greater impact on digital commerce than ever before , according to relevant sources . Its importance was further highlighted during the 2020 lockdown . Despite the difficulties brought about by the pandemic , the strength of the segment and its bright future are evident .

This growth trend is undoubtedly good news for European e-commerce sellers, as it will bring them more orders. Recently, a data revealed by Amazon also highlights the rapid development of e-commerce in Europe. The data shows that in 2020, the sales of British SMEs on Amazon Business exceeded 300 million pounds.

It is reported that Amazon Business was launched in the UK in 2017. It is almost the same as the B2C sales model. Every year, the sales generated by small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK through it increase by more than 50%. In the UK, Amazon Business provides services to more than half of the companies and some public sector organizations , and its global annual sales have reached more than US$25 billion worldwide .

Patrick Reuther, director of seller services at the European site , said that they are helping sellers reach more corporate customers. Sellers can take advantage of tailored B2B features that give SMEs the opportunity to sell higher value orders to large enterprises.
