Amazon electronics products are under investigation by the Federal Commission due to safety risks

Federal regulators are investigating the safety of several Amazon-branded products, including at least eight AmazonBasics products — including battery chargers, surge protectors, phone charging cables, patio heaters and voice-controlled microwaves — under review .

An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment. A representative for the CPSC declined to confirm the existence of an investigation or say how many products are under review, telling Insider that the agency cannot comment on investigations.

Relevant data shows that in a September 2020 investigation, more than 70 AmazonBasics products had hundreds of reviews saying that these products had a series of problems such as catching fire, melting, starting to smoke or exploding. At the time of the CNN report, many of these products were still available for purchase, despite many reports of potential safety hazards.

In one incident, a fire marshal determined that a home fire in 2017 was started by an AmazonBasics USB cable. A customer told CNN that his surge protector began spewing flames and caught fire in his home in 2018 .

Amazon paid $ 1,500 in damages to cover the losses but continued to sell the product for nearly two years despite other customers reporting it was a fire hazard. In response to the September report, U.S. lawmakers called on Amazon to recall any potentially dangerous products.

In fact, various dangerous products are often exposed to accidents, especially electronic products. Previously, there have been many explosion accidents in the transportation of shipping companies. Many of them were caused by many sellers secretly reporting or concealing the electronic products on board, resulting in frequent explosion and fire accidents, ranging from products catching fire and falling into the sea to multiple casualties. Even several shipping companies have announced that they will no longer accept live products.

Sellers selling related products should pay attention. According to the investigation of the Federal Committee, electronic products sold on Amazon will soon face various investigations and even accidents. Sellers should still conduct quality inspections. After all, safety comes first.
