Amazon releases new policy for inventory backlogs!

Amazon releases new policy for inventory backlogs!

Yesterday, Amazon US released a new announcement, stating that starting from September 9, 2021, it will add two new value recovery service options for inventory goods that cannot be automatically removed.

The two new Value Recovery Service options are:

1. Renovation

This option is for returned products that meet Amazon's policy requirements. If the returned product is in new condition but requires minor refurbishment (such as packaging, labeling), Amazon will help the seller turn the goods into a sellable condition free of charge.

2. Liquidation

This option allows eligible products to be liquidated wholesale through trusted suppliers. If the product is liquidated wholesale, the profit earned will be transferred to the seller's personal account.

In addition, Amazon emphasizes that these two policies for returned products can help sellers manage storage costs and minimize the impact on IPI scores and storage limits. If sellers need to configure inventory products, go to Automated unfulfillable settings and select Liquidation, Refurbishment, and unsaleable items that do not meet the new value recovery policy will be automatically deleted according to the seller's Return or Dispose.

Amazon released this new policy, on the one hand, to implement the previously proposed "commodity value protection plan", that is, to resell some unsaleable returned products through renewal, so as to reduce sellers' losses and save earth's resources; on the other hand, it is to reduce inventory workload and reduce the burden on sellers and Amazon workers. However, according to sellers' feedback, the situation is not optimistic.

Seller A: In general, Amazon seems to be less picky about defective goods, and I have no problem with that. Many products, especially commercial and industrial products, are mostly packaged flat. If the outer packaging is missing a piece of tape or the outer box corner is squeezed and damaged, it really has no impact on the product.

Seller B: I'm wondering if Amazon has any plans to flag these refurbished items to inform buyers when they are resold. Or does Amazon have any plans to prevent sellers from getting hit with USN complaints when selling Amazon refurbished items?

Seller C: Amazon refurbished this product and resold it, but the seller is still responsible for the status of the refurbished product.

It can be seen that most sellers are struggling with buyer complaints and are worried about the return and refund incidents happening again. When Amazon releases the policy on resale and return of overstocked goods, it should also make the rules clear and transparent so that it can gain the support of sellers.
