On February 2, the Malaysian government announced that the movement restrictions implemented to combat the epidemic will be extended for another two weeks. This means that except for Sarawak, which has not yet implemented a movement restriction order, the rest of Malaysia will continue to implement a movement restriction order until February 18. In the movement restriction order in January, the Malaysian government not only restricted the number of people traveling and the scope of activities, but also banned group gatherings and restricted business operations. Malaysian Defense Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob pointed out that the government made the decision on the advice of the health department in view of the recent high number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 . Ismail stressed that according to the movement control order, people will continue to be prohibited from traveling across states during this period. He also revealed that since the Chinese New Year falls during the movement control order, the government will also formulate a standard operating procedure for epidemic prevention during the Chinese New Year. It is understood that the movement restriction order currently implemented in Malaysia has restricted people's activities and social gatherings, but allowed most economic sectors to remain open. Ismail said that more rigorous standard operating procedures for epidemic prevention will be announced later, such as limiting the number of people shopping in supermarkets, in order to further control the epidemic. According to foreign media reports, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Malaysia has reached 222,628. Yesterday, the Ministry of Health reported another 3,455 new confirmed cases. Of the new cases, five were imported and 3,450 were from local transmission, the Ministry of Health's director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement. In addition, Malaysia has announced 21 deaths, and the death toll has increased to 791. At the same time, there are 3,661 discharged patients, and the total number of recovered patients has reached 173,990, accounting for 78.2% of all cases. Of the remaining 47,847 cases, 327 are being held in intensive care units, with 145 requiring assisted breathing. It is understood that the ages of the deaths from the new coronavirus in Malaysia are between 36 and 83 years old. Most of them suffer from complex medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and chronic kidney disease. Moreover, most cases are from infection clusters, which were discovered after tracing contact activities. Malaysia Movement Control Order |
