Amazon has introduced a new return policy, and sellers may face crazy returns!

With the exciting Amazon As Prime Day approaches, Amazon continues to take action and has updated a new policy.

 

Return Policy Update for Self-delivered Products

 

Yien.com learned that Amazon US released a new announcement this morning, updating the seller's self-delivery return policy.

 

The announcement stated that starting from August 16, 2021, as part of Amazon's sales policy , Amazon US will automatically authorize return requests that comply with Amazon's return policy .

 

 

For international sellers who ship their own returns, you need to provide one of the following return options:

 

No Return Refund: Provide a full refund without requiring a return.

Offer domestic return options: Provide a local return address in the buyer's country .

Provide prepaid international return shipping : Provide your own prepaid return mailing labels to fulfill return requests in the markets where you sell .

 

Also starting August 16, 2021, for returns completed by international sellers who do not comply with the above policy, Amazon may refund the buyer on the seller’s behalf and credit the amount to the seller ’s own account.

 

Sellers rant about Amazon's new policy

 

After this policy was announced, it was criticized by many sellers ! It is another policy that is unfair to sellers.

 

Some sellers said that it was very frustrating that Amazon had introduced a policy of automatically authorizing the return of items when a simple email or phone call could resolve most issues that customers might have .

 


It is reported that due to Amazon's policy on 3P sellers, the return rate has increased significantly recently. One seller said that Amazon still does not realize that most customers now know how to operate the system or deceive sellers, and more than half of the return reasons are not factual or actual reasons.

 

When sellers sell high-priced items that require palletization and shipping , some customers only use the product for a few days and then decide to return it and try something else. Through Amazon ’s automatic authorization return policy , sellers end up losing the round-trip shipping fee and receiving old products that can no longer be sold.

 

And the scary thing is that some sellers have already encountered this situation!

 

The seller said a customer maliciously requested a refund but then emailed the seller about how much he loved using the product. The seller then spent six hours on the phone and email with seller support , but ultimately received no help, even though it was clear the customer was taking advantage of the new policies.

 

  More aggressive sellers have said they will no longer offer these services on Amazon and have shut down all international shipping, which accounts for about 40% of their sales. Because when you pay up to $50 or more in shipping fees and then get fraudulent claims, it becomes meaningless to sell internationally on Amazon.

 

For consumers, the return option should be their last resort, and not a weapon that can easily hurt sellers. For sellers, Amazon's customer-first principle has infringed on their rights to a certain extent, and sellers who ship their own goods will suffer again!
