Recently, Maersk issued an announcement stating that due to continued congestion at North American ports , the company's trans-Pacific routes have been severely delayed in 2021. Coupled with recent congestion at Asian ports, bad weather, and congestion in the Suez Canal , the shipping delays have intensified again.
The turnaround time of ships has increased by 2 to 3 weeks compared to normal circumstances. In serious cases , the interval between some voyages departing from Asia has exceeded 7 days.
Therefore, in order to cope with the shipping situation in the trans-Pacific region , the 2M Alliance decided to adjust the relevant voyages of 10 trans-Pacific routes. This adjustment involves many Chinese ports such as Qingdao, Ningbo, Yantian, Nansha, Xiamen, and Hong Kong . The adjustment will also be implemented from May this year .
MSC said it will update its Transpacific US East Coast network to better manage challenging market conditions and address congestion throughout the supply chain . The reorganization is designed to ensure faster rotations to maintain supply chains .
As a result, MSC is introducing its own new service , which will call Vung Tau and Yantian, with direct calls to Charleston, Savannah and New York, departing Vietnam on May 22, 2021.
MSC’s updated carousel details mainly include the US service: Hong Kong – Nansha – Yantian – Vung Tau – Singapore – New York – Savannah – Miami – Freeport – Tanjung Belapas and the Emerald service: Xiamen – Yantian – Shanghai – Busan – Cristobal – Savannah – Norfolk – New York – Singapore
In fact, Maersk announced at the end of March this year that it would suspend short-term online booking on the Spot booking platform in order to quickly transport existing cargo and empty containers to the areas most in need and speed up turnover.
Maersk said it is deploying additional capacity to reduce the adverse effects caused by various factors , but the current shortage of available capacity still cannot meet all needs.
The 2M Alliance formed by Maersk Line and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) involves a total of 300 container ships ranging from 4,500 TEU to 19,000 TEU. The total capacity of the ships accounts for about 15% of the global total tonnage of ships, and indirectly affects 100 container ships ranging from 1,000 TEU to 9,000 TEU.
However, the trans-Pacific routes such as TP6/Pearl, TP10/Amberjack, and TP88/Pelican are not affected for the time being. Sellers who use sea freight also need to update their logistics arrangements in a timely manner to avoid being affected by this adjustment. Shipping Asia Pacific |
